Republicans attack unions to hurt Democrats: analysts by Mira Oberman Mira Oberman 52 mins ago
MADISON, Wisconsin (AFP) Republican attempts to disband public workers unions in Wisconsin and other key states are part of a broad strategy to undermine US President Barak Obama and his Democrats at the ballot box, analysts said.
Unions have been the biggest sources of financial and grass roots, get-out-the-vote organizational support for Democrats and have long been a target of business-backed Republicans.
But they've seen their power and membership rolls shrink as the manufacturing sector declined and shifted to anti-union southern states, and now represent just 12 percent of US workers.
Public workers account for more than half of union rolls, even though a dozen states prohibit state and local government workers from forming unions.
And now Republican governors in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana and Iowa are looking to curtail or even eliminate collective bargaining rights for state and local government employees.
The move to bust public unions is part of a broader attempt "to bring us closer to a more permanent Republican majority," said Marjorie Hershey, a political science professor at Indiana University.

In WI we’ve won...all that’s left is the vote. They can kick and scream all they want, but its over.
Even the unions can’t afford to continue to bus in rent a mobs from out of state and if the teachers aren’t back in school by Tuesday I think the firings will begin.

I came from a GM union family from Flint, Mich. & the Unions are from the past. They cost too much money & the states can’t afford it. I wish we could get rid of Unions totally.
The teachers all need to be fired & I can’t believe that there wouldn’t be hundreds of out of work teachers that would love moving & taking these jobs.

The move to bust public unions is part of a broader attempt "to bring us closer to a more permanent Republican majority," said Marjorie Hershey, a political science professor at Indiana University. Hershey is a liberal hack. The GOP has to bust public unions because that is the only way to pry the public pursestrings from their grubby fingers.

Yep, pure bosh by an ignorant writer not interested in learning the truth. It’s much easier to write an article using the standard template.

Republican attempts to disband public workers unions in Wisconsin.. An obvious lie, so I didn't read any further. I will venture to the link to see the comments, though.

Teh bottom line is that the union support DemocRAT politicians who then negotiate the contracts witrh the union, who support DemocRATs. And round and round it goes.
It essentially is a rigged game, and is tantamount to price fixing.
Who is looking out for the taxpayers in the scenerio? It is certainly not the DemocRAT politicians who are serving the interests of the unions.

Indeed. Bleed the unions now. The unions are facing multiple fronts now (Wisconsin, Ohio, Tennessee, and who knows what state will be next). Keep the fascists on the defensive. The more money they spend on bussing people to protests, printing signs, etc. is just that much less money they have to use come election time.

Gee, then we could say that "democrats attack the TEA party movement to hurt Republicans".
The MSM is in spontaneous, perpetual orgasm right now...

The teachers will use up sick time and probably won't face termination. However, parents are seeing their kids at home instead of at school. Those parents are having to deal with taking care of those kids while trying to hold down their jobs - jobs where they largely don't have a defined-benefit pension and pay much more towards their health insurance costs than the government union members do.
In other words, each passing day will harden the viewpoints of rank-and-file private-sector taxpayers against the unions. The unions are only wired to use intimidation to achieve their goals. In this case, intimidation works against them. They cannot help but shoot themselves in the foot. Repeatedly.

I see. Dang, I thought unions represented “workers”. These folks seem to be saying unions raise money for dems.
