On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a 60 MINUTES story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.
In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.
There will be no further comment from CBS News and Correspondent Logan and her family respectfully request privacy at this time.

Knew something was going on when she was not on air from here in US after returning to CONUS.
This rumor has been working for a few days, and was all but confirmed by the lack of comment or denials from anyone at Black Rock or West 57th.
Some may say Logan has a checkered past, but nothing deserves this!
When 3 CBS engineers were killed by a perp years ago, Rather went into a (well deserved) on-air outrage. This time, there will probably be nothing, because, Lord knows, we don’t want to upset the “Arab Street.” Source with many years in SWA says many Muslims will approve of this, because, it was an infidel getting what she deserved.
When will the rest of America wake up?
Reminds me of the ending of ‘Camp of the Saints’.
The poor woman had to be terrified. I can’t imagine how frightened she was. She was in a place she never should have been sent to.
I hope she can recover from all of this. But it will be a long road. The shame is on the media for sending people there.
Journalists are not exempt from violence. Sending her there was criminal on her employers part. I bet that she had confidence in them that they wouldn’t send her to a place where such things could happen.
Yep, that’s right.
I don’t believe we’ve spoken before, nice to meet you.
The American response? Crickets. Nothing.
What would the American response be if a Muslim woman was ganged raped on the streets of Washington D.C.?
That’s a woman whose dumb luck was far greater than her ability to calculate risk. She may have chosen the right guide but she chose entirely the wrong place to go. She was lucky _they_ decided she was worth neither the money nor the trouble.
“Her background is irrelevant and is no reason to imply that she is responsible for it or that it didn’t happen.”
I would disagree with that, she most definitely is responsible for what happened to her. What she did was the equivalent of walking naked down the street in the bad part of town where the gang bangers hang out. She set herself up for this by dressing in western clothes and going to a location where a near riot was happening with thousands of Muslim men (who are known to do this type of thing).
Personally I think that she gets a thrill or adrenalin rush from going into these kinds of dangerous situations since she’s done it before and gotten away with it. In any case she is as responsible as the people that assaulted her in what happened to her.
PEACEFUL protest my a$$ looting and raping and beatings are NOT acts of peace!!
Obama’s bootlickers are pathetic.
>> Obamas bootlickers are pathetic.
That comment is NOT about Lara Logan, but those piously enamored with every bowel movement taken by the One.
Amazing, I sent it out and posted it on my Facebook Page. Thank you very much.
Dear god,
people,
I am shocked by some of your comments,
This is horrible, i feel awful for this women, please think before you post, you are making the forum look bad,
>”I didn’t take foolish risks and I am an experienced journalist who knows how to avoid dangerous situations.”<
I bet that she thought she could get herself out of a situation. Plus the fact that her editor would never send her in a position that was so dangerous.
I also wonder how much of the MSM believe the White House when they talk about how good things are going. Can they be that stupid to believe Obama and his sycophants?
Wrong.
I don't know how you can get plainer than
“She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault...”
You any relation to jamese777 or james777? .....You know, the guy who hates “birthers”, conservatives and Americans and loves to make us look bad.
We ask parents to sacrifice young ladies on the battlefield to bring some form of freedom to people that have no respect for women, Christians, Americans, Indians, Buddhists, Hindus, Italians, French, Spanish, Blacks, American Indians or Jews. ANYONE NOT a Muslim....a Semitical Muslim at that. I don’t know if they even like Indonesian Muslims. Seriously, we should have nuked Mecca and Medina in 2001. Take out their “god” and his happy places, watch the philosophy dissolve, like Nazism before it.
There seems to be a delusion among some journalists that simply *being* a journalist somehow makes them immune to things like bullets and angry mobs. The MFM was so shocked when Cooper and Amanpour and Polkit and now Logan got beaten up by the mobs in Egypt. Well...they’re MOBS. Large numbers of people whipped into a frenzy do strange and unpredictable things. Sometimes, if they’re Muslims, they see a Western face and decide they’re going to rearrange it. Or in this case, they decide they “want them some of that.” Pro-Mubarak, anti-Mubarak, doesn’t matter.
I’m actually quite surprised this happened. Logan is a veteran reporter, she’s been in and out of the sandbox for over five years. She’s been there, done that, and I’m kind of shocked that her danger sense didn’t tell her that a good-looking, blonde, obviously Western female shouldn’t be wandering around in a group of thousands of hyped-up Muslims. That doesn’t justify her being raped, of course—NO woman ever “has it coming,” that’s just asinine—but wow, maybe keep a headscarf handy and throw it on after you get off-camera in the hopes of lowering your profile? Keep some security around? Stick to an area where you can get out if things go sideways?
The saddest part is that she’ll never get justice. In a mob that large, there’s no way the Egyptian authorities will ever be able to identify the perps. Hopefully the soldiers that rescued her kicked some ass when they pulled the guys away from her, but that’s about the best that could come of it.

Sadly, they would have done the same thing to her and then lopped her head off.
