First lady Michelle Obama will be speaking out to remove barriers to breastfeeding, Politics Daily has learned, throwing the spotlight on nursing as a way to reduce childhood obesity.
This comes as the Obama administration in the past year has made several moves to encourage breastfeeding -- including a push for more flexible workplace rules and an Internal Revenue Service ruling on Thursday that breast pumps and other nursing supplies qualify for tax breaks.
Mrs. Obama -- who has spoken in public about nursing her youngest daughter, Sasha -- is going to tread carefully in what might be a sensitive area for some women -- and not use her bully pulpit to directly ask more women to breast feed.
"Breastfeeding is a very personal choice for every woman," Kristina Schake, Mrs. Obama's communications chief, told Politics Daily. "We are trying to make it easier for those who choose to do it."
Last week, Mrs. Obama touched on breastfeeding strategy at a lunch with 10 print reporters who cover her to mark the first anniversary of her "Let's Move" anti-childhood obesity campaign.
Looking ahead to what she will do in the second year of "Let's Move," Mrs. Obama said: "We also want to focus on the important touch points in a child's life. And what we're learning now is that early intervention is key. Breastfeeding. Kids who are breastfed longer have a lower tendency to be obese.
"We want to get into child-care centers, day-care centers, and start talking about how -- what kind of snacks they're getting there. We want to have those conversations at an earlier level. But those are just some of the things that you'll see."

The federal government has no &^%%$)@ role is raising children!
The universal Obama family line..."We want to get into [____], [_____], and start talking about how [____]..."
How about you MYODB??
“Dairy products”?? Isn’t that related to cows? Oh, Michelle... Never mind
Hey Michelle, big momma government does not know best for us! Leave us alone! {Diety}! What’s next, going to tell me how to trim my toenails?
Crack milk will be a change for the baby from Seagram's Ginger Ale in the nursing bottle.
Wonder what ever happened to the fruit and veggies from their garden?
She sucks
"
Lactation nazis. They are obsessed.
She is not the first lady...she is the FIRST BUSYBODY!!! She is not an expert in any of this stuff...Laura Bush had credibility as an experienced Librarian encouraging children to read, but The First BusyBody has no training in nutrition, dietetics, or early childhood health...as a non-expert unelected citizen, who is she to be foisting her opinion on us thru any legislation or IRS ruling?!?!?!
As an aside, Not to pick on her children, but to point out in her own parenting and parental food choices, her children are not that thin and neither is she.
“I’m so tired of these jerks making my daughter feel like a bad mother..”
I’ve been there. For several different reasons (including being on medication), I couldn’t breast feed and the nursing staff at the hospital were HORRIBLE! Breast feeding is being pushed by the medical society and our culture as always being the best choice. It isn’t in all cases. For one thing, if you bottle feed, the formula has everything that the baby needs. You need to eat something like 2,500 calories a day. Very few women have that type of appetite after birth. Plus, I liked the fact that my husband and I were both able to feed the baby (especially when I was recovering from birth). However, I have known some women who breast fed but returned to work after four weeks for 10-12 hour days (leaving their infant in the hands of a paid nanny). They were the same women who said they were the best Moms in the world because of this one action. Tell your daughter that being a good Mom isn’t about one specific event like breast feeding. It is doing all the other good Mom stuff.
Yep...along with EIC.
LOL...that is sooooooo bad.
Jez now nursing mothers can get a tax credit for their bras, nursing types.. but what the heck..clinton took a tax break for his underwear he gave to good will...
If she’s contributing those kids will be on short rations.
“She is trying so hard to be relevant.,”
Well it isn’t working!
