YAF National Board Expels Ron Paul From Advisory Board
The Washington Times ^ | Saturday, February 12, 2011 | Kerry Picket

Posted on 02/12/2011 6:18:30 PM PST by kristinn

Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) , a conservative libertarian group founded in 1960 at the estate of William F. Buckley, expelled Rep. Ron Paul, Texas Republican, from their advisory board on Saturday. The organization released the following statement on Saturday afternoon:

The National Board of Young Americans for Freedom (YAF)—America's oldest conservative-libertarian activist group—has, per curium, voted to purge Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) from YAF’s National Advisory Board.

YAF’s concern with Rep. Paul stems from his delusional and disturbing alliance with the fringe Anti-War movement.

“It is a sad day in American history when a one-time conservative-libertarian stalwart has fallen more out of touch with America’s needs for national security than the current feeble and appeasing administration,” said YAF’s Senior National Director Jordan Marks.

“Who would have ever thought that we would see the day when YAF was more aligned with the Obama administration than a formerly conservative Republican congressman? Rep. Paul's refusal to support our nation’s military and national security interests border on treason, aside from his failure to uphold his oath to the United States Constitution and defend our country and citizens against all enemies, foreign and domestic,” Marks continued.

SNIP

YAF National Chairman Michael Jones issued the following statement on this issue:

SNIP “Freedom and prosperity cannot peacefully exist alongside radical Islam. It is unfortunate that Ron Paul--a member of the U.S. Congress-- does not understand this. Surely, our enemies do.”

Young Americans for Foreign Entanglements

>> Why did it take them so long to figure this out? <<

Maybe for the same reason that RP still has any number of defenders/admirers here on FR?

You paint with an overly-broad brush...

It does not help your argument, rather it undermines it...

I have no great love for Bush’s war stretegy, nor for his allowance of the war criems trials against Americans who were doing their job, but PAUL is NUTZ!

I can't completely agree with youy over the top statement, but this did give me concern:
“Who would have ever thought that we would see the day when YAF was more aligned with the Obama administration..."
They should have clarified that with something like "in this case."

I knew Bill Buckley personally. You likely did not. He was a conservative with libertarian leanings on various issues. As libertarianism degenerated into anti-Americanism, his enthusiasm for those libertarian tendencies may have sagged a bit but a conservative with libertarian leanings nonetheless.

Also, if you lack familiarity with Young Americans for Freedom, you need a broader base of conservative knowledge and/or experience to judge Bill on ideology.

I certainly suspected that you are pro-life and opposed to fudgepacker "rights." Our differences lie elsewhere. OTOH, you seemed to be siding with the Galveston looney tune and it is good to learn that you are not siding with him. FReegards.

Check your calendar. The then necessary and then still feasible isolationism of the helpless infant USA of 1787-1815 or so is rather far back there in the rear view mirror.

Isolationism, Neville Chamberlainism and paleowhateverism are certainly no longer necessary or feasible except in the fevered imaginations of CAIR, CPUSA, Code Pink, the Muslim Brotherhood, International ANSWER and the Paulistinian platoon. The USA is a grown up country with grown up responsibilities.

Thanks to groups like YAF, the draft was abolished. We now have a professional military and people have to volunteer to serve.

I think that JimRob stated FR's policy on paleoPaulie and his sycophants on 9/30/07 and that he has not changed that policy since.

If paleopeacecreepism is your passion, join the Libertarian Party or Code Pink and others will carry the nation's burdens for you and Ramsay Clark and Sean Penn and Jane Fonda and paleoPaulie.

In your #194, what do you mean by “socially liberal hjell?” I probably agree with you but a definition or correction would help.

Why not tell Lucius Cornelius Sulla the name of your website so that he (and other FReepers) can go there and judge for themselves just how "traditional" and "Catholic" the SSPX, dead Marcel Lefebvre, living Fellay and de Mallerais and Holocaust denier Williamson and their adherents are or were and, just possibly why they were excommunicated and declared schismatic by John Paul II?

The quite traditional late Fr. Kevin (?) Fitzpatrick was Bill's priest. Fr. Fitz said Tridentine Masses regularly at Stamford and sometimes at New Haven.

Any significance as to the choice of Commentary magazine as associates of Bill? What you call "traditional" priests (SSPXers) lack the faculties to hear confessions in non-emergency situations since they are not given those faculties by diocesan ordinaries. Is that not true? Therefore, by accessing the sacrament of Penance through the diocesan priests, Bill had resort to priests with actual faculties. What do you actually know about how often Bill confessed his sins and to whom? Bill lived in the Bridgeport Diocese in Connecticut and his diocesan ordinary was Bishop William Lori, the Supreme Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, an order never in schism and therefore, according to SSPX, "new order." Right?

I never sic the mods on anyone. We can all fight our own battles.

I suspect that Ron Paul wins the CPAC poll every year because Tiny Tim and Yasser Arafat are dead and Barney Frank did not run and Ahmadinejad is probably on record as having been born in Iran. God bless.

I thought Young Americans for Freedom changed its name years ago to Young America’s Foundation. You know, like how the Intercollegiate Society of Individualists became the Intercollegiate Studies Institute.

Good on YAF. Paul’s right about the Fed but wrong on too many other things. Guy’s a flake.

The connection between the Fed and the War on Terror to people like Paul is that both are allegedly run by the JOOOOOOOOOOOS!

And conservatives attacked Dick Cheney for his support for gay marriage.

Libertarians and neocons are both wrong on that issue.

Shame on all of them!
