U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said today that he told his daughter to buy a Japanese car--a Toyota Sienna--and that she did so. LaHood's comment came as he announced the results of a 10-month long Department of Transportation study that was undertaken to determine whether electronic systems could have been responsible for reports of sudden acceleration in Toyota vehicles. PRINCETON, Ind. (January 20, 2010) – Production of the all-new 2011 Sienna minivan is underway at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana (TMMI) in Princeton, Ind. Fully redesigned to meet the needs of consumers, the new Sienna was styled at Toyota’s Calty Design Research Center in Newport Beach, Calif., and developed at the Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Production of the new Sienna, as well as Highlander production that began last October, is welcome news for the Indiana plant as it was underutilized during the current economic downturn.

Toyota (NYSE:TM) established operations in North America in 1957 and currently operates 14 manufacturing plants. Toyota directly employs nearly 41,000 in North America and its investment here is currently valued at more than $23 billion, including sales and manufacturing operations, research and development, financial services and design. Toyota’s annual purchasing of parts, materials, goods and services from North American suppliers totals nearly $25 billion.

Toyota currently produces 12 vehicles in North America, including the Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Matrix, RAV4, Sienna, Sequoia, Tacoma, Tundra, Venza and the Lexus RX 350.

The last time I checked, most Toyotas (and certainly the Sienna) are built in the United States, and therefore are American.

In fact, one can reasonably argue that GM and Chrysler cars are NOT American, any more, as they represent Socialism, not America (at least as intended).

In fact, one could argue that the Sienna is MORE AMERICAN than even a Ford, as they are built by people who love America...rather than UAW types.

"U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said today that he told his daughter to buy a Japanese car--a Toyota Sienna--and that she did so."

The Toyota Sienna is built by Americans in Princeton, Indiana.

Better she should buy a Chrysler T&C built by Canadians in Windsor, Ontario? Or a Chevrolet Avalanche built by Mexicans in Silao, Mexico?

Toyota has a very large operation in Georgetown, KY. A few years ago when I was in nearby Lexington, I was told they had 10,000 employees.

Nonsense. The whole purpose of the recall, after the floor mats, was to drive business away from Toyota until the Government Motors duo came out of bankruptcy. The reason the computer code was sent to NASA was to delay the results for a year. And who can argue with NASA ... they have engineers there (ok space engineers, flight engineers, fuel engineers, etc.).

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said today that he told his daughter
to buy a Japanese car—a Toyota Sienna—and that she did so.

LaHood knew the FALSE accussations against Toyota were a g-d-d-mned lie
perpetrated by Government Motors, Fiat-Whats-Left-of-Chrysler and Obama.

Otherwise, this father would never have allowed his “flesh-and-blood”
into a Toyota.

Time to refund Toyota’s penalties/fines.
And issue an official apology and explanation.
Don’t hold your breath Toyota. Just keep on and make money by selling
your usual quality, safer-than-most vehicle.
That will win the day.
If not the century/millenium.
“Revenge is a dish best served cold.”

But even for the guvmint of the USA, power corrupts. And their absolute power
corrupts ABSOLUTELY.

Obama/UAW SOBs!!!

Ten bucks to the first person who can cite a pro-American position rendered by the Obama Administration.

We have the highest % of filthy, greedy, rich people and business owners hoarding wealth of any Country in the World!

Hell of a lot better than a damn government motor POS.

and let me take this opportunity to repeat the sentiment, that I will forgive GM as soon as I forgive Smith&Wesson.
(which is not likely to be soon).
