President Barack Obama is calling for a six-year, $53 billion investment in high-speed rail, as he seeks to use infrastructure spending to jumpstart job creation.
An initial $8 billion investment will be part of the budget plan Obama is set to release Monday. If Congress approves the plan, the money would go toward developing or improving trains that travel up to 250 miles per hour, and connecting existing rail lines to new projects. The White House wouldn't say where the money for the rest of the program would come from, though it's likely Obama would seek funding in future budgets or transportation bills.

A chunk of change like that will put a lot of foreign workers to work.

Yeah, lot of Chinese railroad designers will be glad to take our money.

Ya' know, one might be "with it" if you thought that the Feds could make the money back with profit.
But then you realize that if it were a profitable venture then some private sector company or consortium would be ready to do it.
But no, we have yet another "investment" that won't pay off. In these times of astronomical deficits, the Marxist Messiah still doesn't freakin' get it.

If high-speec rail were a viable option, Norfolk & Southern railroad would already be doing it.

In the wake of the failure of porkulus in which Obama squandered $1 trillion and the Fed squandered well more than a trillion or so, the Obama plan for reigniting the economy consists of choo-choos and windmills.

High speed rail is electric....Where are we going to get all this electric to run this?? Just another payoff to GE..

They won't be going that fast on existing lines and there would be minimal stops if they did.

yay- let’s reward union workers with even more work building high speed raisl so that the unemployed and recent homeless folks can speed back and forth from town to town- what a fricken brilliant idea-
53 billion huh? that could save an awful lot of folks from becoming homelss after they’ve lsot their jobs due to crappy presidential management of the economy- but nope- the $$ apparently is goign to line more union worker’s pockets

I think that if we could get foreigners or domestic nitwits to finance such an obvious waste of their capital it would be just cheeky.
