A chunk of change like that will put a lot of foreign workers to work.

...for unions at union wages. *sigh* -— why is “high-speed rail” the dead horse that liberals always beat??

Yeah, lot of Chinese railroad designers will be glad to take our money.
To: NormsRevenge
Ya' know, one might be "with it" if you thought that the Feds could make the money back with profit.
But then you realize that if it were a profitable venture then some private sector company or consortium would be ready to do it.
But no, we have yet another "investment" that won't pay off. In these times of astronomical deficits, the Marxist Messiah still doesn't freakin' get it.

If high-speec rail were a viable option, Norfolk & Southern railroad would already be doing it.

In the wake of the failure of porkulus in which Obama squandered $1 trillion and the Fed squandered well more than a trillion or so, the Obama plan for reigniting the economy consists of choo-choos and windmills.

the money would go toward developing or improving trains that travel up to 250 miles per hour, and connecting existing rail lines to new projects.
They won't be going that fast on existing lines and there would be minimal stops if they did.

yay- let’s reward union workers with even more work building high speed raisl so that the unemployed and recent homeless folks can speed back and forth from town to town- what a fricken brilliant idea-
53 billion huh? that could save an awful lot of folks from becoming homelss after they’ve lsot their jobs due to crappy presidential management of the economy- but nope- the $$ apparently is goign to line more union worker’s pockets

53 Billion for Hi-Speed Rail? If the past is any indication of the future(and it usually is), this will likely ballon to 2 or 3 times that before it’s finished. A la the “Big Dig” project in Boston.

Make the deficit $1.5 trillion + $53 billion.
It would cost at least 100X as much to rebuild new tracks for trains such as this. It’s not the trains, it’s the tracks stupid.
A local talker also likes to point out, these things wear out after 20-30 years. So you set yourself up to spend this every 20 years or so. Not to mention the enormous operating costs.

Didn’t one of the Obama stimulus bills have billions already going to high speed rail? Is this like the banks? Each stimulus gives them billions on top of billions and the banks sit on it and jack up their fees to screw us even more? Are we paying for this 10 times and some of the money is going to Obama’s muslim brotherhood or the promotion of Islam food in school cafeteria’s, or Obama 2012 campaign?
