Looters broke into the Egyptian Museum during anti-government protests late Friday and destroyed two Pharaonic mummies, Egypt's top archaeologist told state television.

I pray on line every morning and there’s a wonderful part of the website I go to which shows who else in the world is logged into that site and praying too. Usually a couple in Egypt. None this morning because the Internet is shut down. I’m sure that they are still praying however as am I for these people.
The Taliban and their treatment of the Buddha statues in
Aghanistan come to mind..
They’d blow’d ‘em up ..
Respect for those who came before and their beliefs..
It’s meaningless to barbarians and terrorists
Glad you weren’t already there. Sorry you will miss your tour however.
Me too. Effing vandals.
We were originally scheduled to be in the Rames Hilton on
Wed.Thrus. and Friday, but our tour date was changed. Hopefully, they were able to get our orginial tour mates
flown out early.
I haven't seen the pyramids in person but they look as if it would take more than a few 500 pound bombs (or a nuke) from the air to tear them down. Something I doubt these people have access to.
I never get the idea of destroying things purely for the sake of destroying them, and especially things that are old and from past times. Even if you don’t think they are beautiful or worthwhile. But in this case it’s particularly stupid because it brings in a great deal of cash to the country.
Oh my, prayers for them!

Yes,we feel the same and are going to check with the tour company. The Hilton was right down the street for the museum.
One can not befriend or trust Arab Regimes.
Muzzies gone wild.
So what else is new?
To Egypt: we’ll take your mummies; you take our Muzzies.
Even the Iraqis didn't destroy their ancient artifacts (they did steal some, but those have since been recovered) during their wild looting spree after the fall of Saddam in 2003.
In the early days of the war, we used to joke that the best base to be on was the one at Babylon (Babil) because even the terrorists seemed to respect the ancient sites and didn't mess with anything in the historical areas.
All of this will definitely put a damper on the tourist trade which Egypt relies heavily on. I've always wanted to go there, but it won't happen in my lifetime now.
These poor souls will now have Boris Karloff wringing their necks in the middle of the night.
I wish you were right. Enough dynamite can destroy anything. Remember the Buddhas?
We stayed at the Ramses Hilton after we left Saudi Arabia back in ‘82. It was a first-class hotel then. Go if you get a chance once it settles down.
What could have been a nice country sinks deeper and deeper into barbarianism.
