Suez Canal, the world’s biggest pirate nest. Pay the toll, or face the troll.
One of the more critical reasons why the world won’t tolerate fundies running Egypt. No matter how many military power jockeys you have to bribe.
Business as usual. Mubarak was a uniform and became a puppet. Next guy, same. They just need someone with a little less play in the codpiece.

Thanks Flavius. The oilfields would be shut down first, so no worries.

And you heard this first right here...

If the Suez ere closed for even a short period of time, the oil shortage in Europe would be almost immediate, and the Russians would make out like raped apes on the surging price of their own crude oil supplies, and the Russians will howl with delight all the way to the bank.

Closing Suez would be a relatively simple matter as has been demonstrated before, and once done would cause major disruptions in the world economy. In the meantime, the newly minted US Ambassador to Syria has presented his credentials to Bashar Assad.

After all Premier Hussein has his own priorities.....

As long as we try to buy respect we’re screwed. We go out and help countries and they always turn on us.

If we need oil, “Why don’t you just take the oil, El Guapo?” So said “Jefe” in THE THREE AMIGOS.

Excuse me? We have Jimma Carter in the WH. Never underestimate what he’s going to do...and I suspect it will be to give in, appease, stall, do nothing, and be passive.

This man will never attack, or retaliate. He will not protect our interest short of bravado.

He and Hillary Clinton are the ultimate phonies....

The US will step back, and do exactly what we did in Hondurus. We will back the lefty...

And how did that work out?

I totally agree with you about the New Carter. But he isn't running things in Egypt.

Actually, the vast majority of oil tankers today can't even use the Suez Canal anymore--they're too big. The big oil terminals in the Persian Gulf (and most of the world) nowadays serve Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) or Ultra Large Crude Carrier (ULCC) ships, and these ships have to travel the long way around the Cape of Good Hope from the Persian Gulf to Europe. Indeed, even container ships are getting so big that they can't use the Suez Canal anymore.

Off the coast to Texas and Louisiana, there are offshore terminals where oil carried by VLCC's and ULCC's are unloaded.

Exactly. He will sit idly by, and behind the scenes back the person or persons who are the most left as Carter did. He will do nothing, e.g. bring our destroyers into the area or anything that hints at us protecting our interests in the Suez.

To come full circle, he will deny Mubarik to come to the US for his Cancer treatment as Carter did to a loyal ally, The Shah of Iran.

And in the end? Isreal will once again be on their own.

Interestingly, closing the Suez Canal would have zero effect on oil from the Persian Gulf to the USA. Why? Because oil shipped from the Persian Gulf to the USA use VLCC's and ULCC's (the ships I mentioned in an earlier post), and these ships are too big to fit in the Suez Canal.

Exactly; closure of the Suez would certainly hit Europe, not the US, and the biggest beneficiary would probably be the Russians who could command any price they want for their oil.

But this is a World economy and anything that hits Europe hard will hit the US as well...we are not immune from Europe.
