It depends. The army leaders is places like Egypt have to read the tea leaves too. If they assess this situation to be untenable, who knows that they’ll do.
Mubarak’s kids aren’t out raping women and killing their husbands. He hasn’t instituted mass graves for his victims in his populace. He isn’t causing massive problems for his people across the board.
What we are seeing (and many people on this thread are clueless to it), is a radical bunch of Islamic activists trying to destabilize a person who has been friendly with the West.
Mybarak is not extreme enough. He is not a radical enough Islamic adherent. That’s his major crime in Egypt.
What follows Mubarack will be worse for everyone, not just Egyptians.
He has kept his national stable. That alone is a plus for the world.
Israel and Egypt have a good working relationship. What most people see as Egypt’s intransigence against Israel on occasion is actually produced to give Mubarak cover against the Islamic extremists.
Israel could do a heck of a lot worse than Mubarak on their border.
If Mubarak falls, Israel will be at war with Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, and the West Bank, in short order. If Jordan goes south, we can add that one to the mix.
Is that the world some of my clueless friends here want to see? Evidently so.
Jimmy Carter will be pleased as punch.
We’re looking at the beginning of a global melt-down here.
Oh my:
“President Mubarak, the fat lady has a song she would like you to hear.”
....who "we" gonna get to do our....
....how to put this delicately....
....interrogating?....
Israel is the target and this is their first big move.
I well remember how the Left talked about the Shah of Iran. He was (apparently) a million times worse than Hitler. So, the Shah went out, Khomeinei came in, and we got decades of radical Islamic terrorism around the globe.
Mubarak is better than what will follow.
You are the voice of logic in a sea of panic.
The US is not a world despot - we have to play the cards dealt with diplomacy and self-interest. Since the evaporation of the British Empire and the fall of the Berlin Wall - the World has been in a constant state of regional conflict. It used to be a dance of dictators and democracy - now it is Islam vs. the rest of humanity.
Where is the United Nations?
I think the global melt-down started a long time ago - about the time US citizens elected the first socialists to office, back in the early 1900's - we're just now realizing where it is all headed - straight into the end time, I think.
