Yes. I went to school with some. Still stay in touch with a few.
In other news:
“You may compare this speech by Mubarak to the last speech by Bin `Ali. It just made things worse. He talked as if the people are merely blaming prime minister Nadhif for their misery. How dictators fight to the last second. I personally think that Mubarak probably would have surrendered power today but the US pushed him to stay in power. I am speculating but I have a feeling I am right. I received information that the US is trying to install the Egyptian Army’s chief-of-staff as the new leader. “
I’d LOVE to know where this guy got his info from.
I certainly don’t claim to know much about the middle east beyond this: Fundamental Islamist Governments Are Bad News.
I also know enough not to expect a Jeffersonian Republic to spontaneously break out any time soon.
Keep the Islamists away and we can deal with the other bad choices those countries might make.
Yeah, the Egyptian government mows down the Egyptians!
Be sure to tune in.
BTW, how long has the big cheese been in power now?
Folks, please make certain to have 2 weeks of supplies stored up. Just in case.
Exactly, people seem to think we can just wave our magic wand and suddenly have Jeffersonian Republics appear out of the blue...it don’t happen that way.
Well thank you Paul. thank you for not calling me names, calling me a boob, referring to me as clueless. You asked a sane and civil question. I, who am handy with a keyboard, will take the time to respond. You seem to be seeking a civil discourse, not trying to show how nasty you can be.
So far as I know, there can’t be much worse than a takeover of Egypt than the Muslim brotherhood.
First, I keep hearing this about a takeover by the Muslim brotherhood but how on earth do we know who the hell will take over? But do not dwell on that rhetorical question as I acknowledge that the MB will probably have a lot of power.
Islam is an oppressive religion used by nuts and basketcases to help them keep power.
I just never want to be in a position to be advocating the continuing oppression of a peoples, assuming we agree that the Egyptian people have, indeed, been oppressed. It goes against my sense of fairness, my American grain, my very genes dating back to the American revolution.
It’s kind of like Meryl Streep’s movie....”It’s complicated”. Meryl Streep, you might recall, saved us all from alar in our apples, you should be grateful.
I think it’s knee jerk to keep saying over and over...”Well Mubarak is bad but the alternative is worse” as if that justifies oppressing an entire nation of people. Further, the alternative is worse for WHO? US? I’m not sure that applies to the Egyptians.
Let’s not forget that Mubarak’s been in power for 30 years now. It’s not like he couldn’t have kept his power for ten years maybe, stole many millions in American cash, then stepped down. He could have, throwing it out there, shared a bit of the fruits of his thievery with some of those citizens.
Egypt has an amazing tourist income. That income belongs to ALL of the people. Yet for thirty years, with millions coming in and with America pouring in the bucks, these people’s lives have not changed. They have acres of slums and lives with no hope.
Mubarak doesn’t even have a damn Vice President, that arrogant SOB, such is his quest for power.
Paul, I don’t know the answer. But first thing Mubarak did was take down those peoples Internet and cell phone service. He’s a very, very mean and nasty guy.
What I’d like to see happen, if I had my druthers, is for Mubarak to be kept in power. The US would then make this guy retire and segue in another head of government, one that is not radical Islamist.
What really makes me sad is to have, on this forum of all places, people so very willing to shrug their shoulders and condemn those people fighting so desperately for their freedom, to more tyranny by that petty despot. Keep in mind that the vast majority of those protesters are not MB, they’re ordinary people wanting a better life for their descendants.
I’m sure the MB is orchestrating a lot of this and I guess they’ll find a way to ascend to fill the vacuum.
But anybody with eyeballs could see this coming many years ago and yet America didn’t pressure this guy to stop his oppression and yes, I believe America had the power to do so.
The politicos kicked the can down the road.
Fiinally, I truly believe that America has the power to do something about Egypt, yes I do. Withhold money, give money only if they comply with laws, there’s a way.
I don’t think Obama would even let such a thought of this kind of work enter his pretty little head.
I hope it all works out for the Egyptian people because they’ve put up with this Mubarak for 30 years, it isn’t as if they haven’t given the a**hole a chance.
There's only been one so far in the history of the universe and we are in the process of trying to keep from losing that one!
All we need is Sir Mick and Keef.
“I hung around [Cairo], when I saw it was time for a change...I killed the czar and his ministers, Anastasia screamed in vain. I rode a tank, with a general’s rank, while the blitzkrieg raged, and the bodies stank. Pleased to meet upi, hope you guessed my name
Even in the second grade, I knew duck & cover was just busy work if they dropped the bomb. :-)
That part hasn't begun..
I think the global melt-down started a long time ago - about the time US citizens elected the first socialists to office, back in the early 1900's - we're just now realizing where it is all headed - straight into the end time, I think.
I think it is time to let the other countries take care of themselves.

The world has always been a chaotic place, nothing new under the sun.
Got my 2 weeks. What are your thoughts for implications here in the US? I’m not seeing anything in the immediate future unless this thing turns out to be a full-scale world war with attacks on Israel starting the whole thing.
Oh great.....Now we got a whole bunch of Egyptians protesting in front of the White House, making demands, waving foreign flags etc...
That seems to be zer0's intent whether or not it's a good idea. It would definitely be cheaper.
Israel might suffer though, especially if the entire region goes Islamist.
Wow, he looks worse that that odummer picture.
He’s had a bad day... ;0)
