Who's your seat buddy? Congress pairs off for State of the Union unity display
The Hill ^ | 1/22/2011 | Jordy Yager

Dozens of lawmakers are getting a second dose of high school as they venture across the aisle and ask colleagues to sit with them for President Obama’s State of the Union address next week.

<----> snip <---->

The bipartisan gesture carries a serious tone for nearly all who have pledged to do away with the typical seating arrangement, which is not assigned but generally gets divided by party. But the humor of asking one of their fellow lawmakers to attend the event as their “date” has not escaped members.

THIS IS A TRAVESTY, THE GOP shold be ashamed of themselves.

THey should be showing AMerica how many Republicans now are in the HOUSE.Again the Dems have pulled a fast one with the balless leadership the GOP has in Congress.

And again the GOP is off to a slow start for the 2012 election while the Dens are in high gear.

WHAT A FARCE.

I'm not terribly worried about that one.

Baraq will be running on a platform of 4 yrs of 10% unemployment and $4 / gallon gas.

Does anyone see the historical reference to the rearrangement of deck seating on the Titanic?

The only thing I’m looking forward to on Tuesday night is hearing Paul Ryan give the Republican rebuttal.

That's the ONLY part I'll be watching.

The Koch Brothers ain't paying me enough to sit and watch the Teleprompter Kenyan flap his lying purple lips for 45 minutes.

Congress trying to accomplish something that is within the realm of their capabilities to accomplish.

Perhaps they can play "one potato, two potato" to decide who heads up committee's from now on?

To speed up the business in the senate in the 2011 session, Harry Reid has declared that bills shall get one vote using rock, paper, scissors. Republican votes shall be recorded as tape, which is not part of rock, paper, scissors, and thus not subjest to senate rules.

If this happeneds I am truly sickened, they just gave us the finger when they promised us a fight. The left leaning progressive GOP slackers and bootlickers I can understand but if we see the top guys falling for this sh## a third party is a guarentee

Are they really going to do this? I thought the R’s had decided not to?

Sounds like the repubLICKan party is trying to achieve bankruptcy before the federal government does! Bunch of worthless socialist traitors. Cause they sure as he@@ aren't going to get any increase in donations by joining the enemy.

The only "reaching across the aisle" that any conservative should be doing is to grab one or two of the worthless commies on the other side by the throat and choke the snot out of him or her.

Sitting together? Give me a break. When did the left wingnuts "reach out" and "sit together" with the republicans? NEVER! It's time for the right to give to them what they've been giving to us for the last 50 years.

Maybe they need to go legislate in namby-pamby land, the bunch of jackwagons!

Coburn wants Schumer to be "friend with benefits".

This sitting together idea has got to be one of the stupidiest ideas that they dreamed up. And these fools write our laws.

The use of Republicans as "Human Shields" is depressing...

The idea that some republicans are volunteering to be human shields is even more depressing. What is wrong with these people?

Serously, what is going on with the GOP leadership if this is true?!?! Another disappointment to be sure.

This “unity” theme sounds so “Moaist” to me. Tuesday’s address is not a party, the address is not supposed to be some sort of celebration of dear leader’s “accomplishments.” It is supposed to be a report on the state of the country. I can feel my blood pressure rising already over this speech....GOP took the House precisely because they were not “in unity” with the House leadership....

Message to GOP leadership:

We don’t need a “Rodney King ‘Can’t we all just get along’ moment” here. If GOP falls for this, the GOP will have a Rodney Dangerfield moment and “Get no respect.”

This is not a wedding where a wedding planner may want to balance out the numbers in attendance for the friends of the bride and groom. This is the State of the Union Address, and I might add that IMHO, the State of the Union is perilous!

Ok, I am gonna try and calm down now and get ready for the big game

Oh please don’t say that......just the thought of it makes me wanna blow chunks because it’s a possibility (power sharing). Let’s just hope Boehner ain’t no Trent Lott. :(

It does seem like the Repubs are letting the Dems call their tune. First they delayed things because of the Giffords shooting. Now they are complying with the bullsh*t request for “civility” - and giving that meme credence.

I don’t see any leadership from Boehner. Now that the Dems know they can yank his chain anytime they want, they will continue to do so. It’s what they live for and they are good at it.

Looks like "we" have caved yet again.

It's so disappointing to win the seats but be stuck with the same old do nothing mentality.

I had hopes but it appears that nothing has changed as a result of Nov. *sigh*

To be fair, that’s the response the Dems are hoping for by setting up this bogus hugfest for the SOTU. Demoralizing the enemy (us) is their constant ambition.

I love the wit and humor of Freepers. Those t-shirts and the diet prescribed above should effectively ruin the evening. lol
