Three days after hosting Chinese President Hu Jintao in talks defined largely by economic issues, President Obama championed plans to make America more competitive during his weekly radio address Saturday.
White House aides have said increasing American competitiveness will be a theme of the president's State of the Union speech to Congress on Tuesday.
In his Saturday address, Obama began with an upfront assessment that more doors should be opened for U.S. goods and services internationally, saying, "If we're serious about fighting for American jobs and American businesses, one of the most important things we can do is open up more markets to American goods around the world."
Obama then claimed that this week's talks with China's president furthered this goal, asserting that the deals brokered between the two powers will result in an increase of U.S. exports to China by more than $45 billion and will support 235,000 American jobs.
The president expressed confidence that the United States is able to "out-compete any other nation on Earth (by) leading the world in innovation" and "opening new markets to American products."

LOL...excellent photo. Obama just like the Free Trade Commies who refuse to get tough regarding Free Trade with Communist China. There won’t be competitiveness until tariffs are slapped on Communist China....and Obama is too much of a Free Trader to that
I just read an article yesterday that because Big Pharma has lately stopped producing new drugs, that Obama is going to have a new government entity to “encourage” them to do so.
Gee, I wonder why they stopped in the first place?
“If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.” - Ronald Reagan.
I don’t think he realizes that his ideology has done far more damage to the US than any single person or group ever in the US.
We can’t be competitive when the choices for US companies will be, buy health insurance for all employees at an average of $300 per month or pay a $2,000 fine. If I ran a company then the choice is easy, pay the fine for current employees and don’t hire anyone else.
Not to worry, the Fox allstars will be sharing Matthews tingles during their after speech review.
Obama is doing his best to improve competitiveness, Pretty soon we will all be starving and broke and competing for food, and government handouts.
bump
Oh the Fox allstars are all excited about their messiah giving them the show of their lives.
History has shown us time and time again
COMMUNISM CANNOT COMPETE
Obama says one thing, does ANOTHER.
More or less what Castro has done. Everyone is equally poor.
I have not watched a single Fox program since Tucson speech night.
I prefer to get any important information right here on FR and few other sites I visit.
And Castro, the evil mass-murderer, robber is rich.
Obie is a textbook dream marxist and too inexperienced. He is in way over his head and he is experimenting at our expense. But then again, his mantra is “death to America” and everything it stands for.
He knows if he gets America, he takes down the “free western world”
The Repubs had better plan and execute a strong pushback. The jobs O is touting the Obamacare will bring are ALL GOVT JOBS to be found in the layers and layers of administration and oversight in O-care. These will COST the govt and taxpayers. O is also supposed to talk about more TARGETED spending--education and infrastructure. We spend more than the entire world on education as it is. There, again, more of our money to the Education Dept. for teacher's unions to push things like homosexual acceptance from K on.
WHEN are people going to grow brain cells and learn to analyze instead of blinking at all the greatness of The one and nodding in agreement. Sheesh!
