California’s unemployment rate increases to 12.5 percent

California’s unemployment rate increased to 12.5 percent in December, although nonfarm payroll jobs increased by 4,900 during the month, according to data released Friday by the California Employment Development Department from two separate surveys.

The U.S. unemployment rate decreased in December to 9.4 percent.

In December 2009, the unemployment rate in California was 12.3 percent. The unemployment rate is derived from a federal survey of 5,500 California households.

The jobless rate jumped in all but one Central Valley county last month. The only county to see a decrease was Sacramento. Merced County topped the 20 percent mark for jobless adults.

All municipalities are required to assume responsibility for their fair share of unqualified minorities. In my area suburbs are required to open municipal jobs to all while urban areas have residency requirements. The “pretend jobs” are designed to give the illusion that you can make a living with no language or math skills whatsoever; you know, give them something (anything) to aim for...

Thanks FromLori. Rather than actually do anything about it -- an Arizona-style law regarding illegal immigration, for example -- the Demwits appear to be pursuing showbiz-style responses.

• Steinberg wants big review to kill regulations

  California Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, today said he will pursue emergency legislation forcing state agencies to review all regulations and recommend a wholesale re-writing of the state's regulatory scheme. In an interview with The Bee Capitol Bureau, Steinberg said he'll propose "urgency legislation that directs each state agency to review its regulations, identify any duplicative, archaic or inconsistent rules."
