Thousands of shoppers browsed for guns at a trade show in Tucson on Saturday, a week after a shooting rampage that killed six people and raised questions about permissive gun laws in the United States.
"People see it as either guns are going to get banned, or I'm going to get shot," said stall holder Randall Record, 27, explaining the mood at the Crossroads of the West Gun Show on the outskirts of the city. "Either way, it drives sales."
The show was held a week after college dropout Jared Lee Loughner allegedly opened fire on a crowd gathered outside a grocery store with semi-automatic pistol, killing a federal judge and a 9-year-old girl and four others.
Thirteen people were injured by the hail of bullets, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who remains critically ill in a city hospital, shot through the head.

I bought a Glock 17 when they first came out, just because all the lefties were screaming about “plastic guns”. I still have it, but I really prefer the good ol’ 1911 to pretty much everything else. SIGS and Walthers are fine, too, but the 1911 is 100 years old and hasn’t been topped yet.
Take it to a gun show and put that price tag on it. Who knows, someone may need it more than they need $10,000. A lot of people are buying stuff because they do not know how what the dollar will be worth two years from now.

See, that's exactly how I feel. I've fired and owned most handguns known to man.
Nothing does it for me like good ol' .45 slab-sides. The way it carries, handles, recoils, reloads, field strips, everything. If God had a handgun, it would be a 1911.

Obviously you have never held, much less ever shot a 1911. There are absolutely zero similarities between the Glock and 1911 actions.
As for the Glock plastic frame concept and the use of a polygonal barrel in a pistol, it was developed in Germany by Heckler & Koch.
To heck with you trigger-safety plastic fetishists.
You couldn't hope to knock anyone unconscious by hitting them with a Glock, nor could you even entertain the notion of doing anything like this to one of your disposable Bic handguns:

Had a trigger pull like a friggin staple gun.
It was a civilianized version of a 3 shot burst machine pistol, which I'm sure was as useful a feature as it was a beautiful firearm (gag).
Good analogy with the staple gun. A gun collector friend of mine is going to buy one some day as a novelty. I told him it looks like something out of the 1950s Jet Jackson science fiction tv series.

On the other hand, a friend of mine collects 1911s. Some are very expensive full custom builds, others are stock mil-spec going back to WWI.
The Colt 1911; There is no other before or after.
But your friend needs to diversify.
There isn't a single 1911 with a rail in the bunch. He needs to correct that deficiency!

Yup, my first 1911 was actually a WWI original, lanyard ring and all.
My current favorite carry piece is a little stainless Officer's Model with Crimson Trace laser grips.
It's practically a keyring ornament.
