They wanted to libel her with blame with the blood of the innocent who were hurt or killed, thus blood libel. May never have been about Jewish anything and maybe they are being a bit too full of themselves in thinking it was about them.

THE TALE OF “THE WON” AND THE FAIR MAIDEN OF TUCSON

And so it came to be, in the time of the Global Warming, in the era known as the Age of PC Mindlessness, the people of the land called America, having lost their values, their initiative, the desire to be free and their ability to judge, chose as their New Messiah that person known as “The Won”.

And then came to the land, as if in retribution, The Rampage of Loughner the Idiot. When he did use the Firestick of Palin to smite the fair maiden Gabrielle of Tucson. And the people were anguished, becoming dispirited and vexatious. And they knew not if the fair maiden would be taken from them to sit in the land of the Kennedy evermore. And so they did quibble and squabble and argue and point, one at the other, for had they not already shown what fools they were?

So it came to pass that on the fourth day of the Rampage of Loughner the Idiot, that The Won did travel through the ether on the wings of his Princely Carriage to appear from the vapors at the side of the stricken maiden, Gabrielle of Tucson.

And by force of will alone, The Won did bring her comfort and sustenance, causing the Beast to release his grasp and He did free the maiden Gabrielle from her darkness and silence.

And Lo! The Won did cause the the eyes of the maiden Gabrielle to open and gaze in wonder at his countenance. And she knew she would vanquish the wrath of the Firestick of Palin and her life be spared to live evermore as the gift of The Won.

And the people said, “Hallelujah!”

And the people said, “See The Won! Is he not Wonderful? He has restoreth the fair maiden to us and returned to her the purity of her heart, the beauty of her countenance, and the spirit of the democrat. She will forevermore be our light and guidance as together we pursue the Agenda of the Liberal, smite the forces of the Evil Right and ban the Firestick of Palin!”

And they did bask in the warmth of the glow of The Won and were mesmerized by the comforting words he deigned to give them from his TelePrompter.

And The Won himself was again near overcome by his own wonderfulness and beneficence. For was he not The Won?

No group can lay claim to any language or symbol—It’s called Freedom of Speech.

If you don’t like it—Well, that’s too bad.

But even that stricture has been hard to enforce. Indeed, when an episode of the TV show The X-Files once referred to the mysterious death of amphibians in a lake as a "frog holocaust," you knew that the word had become more of a metaphor than a specific historical term.

Actually, Jon, the word "holocaust" is an ancient Greek word with a specific meaning long before the Nazis showed up.

Definition of HOLOCAUST

1: a sacrifice consumed by fire

2: a thorough destruction involving extensive loss of life especially through fire

3a often capitalized : the mass slaughter of European civilians and especially Jews by the Nazis during World War II —usually used with the

b : a mass slaughter of people; especially : genocide

IOW, those who want to limit the term to killing of Jews during WWII are the ones guilty of attempting to appropriate a word, not the other way around.

The liberals cannot be this stupid -- they must be - once again - manufacturing outrage based on a lie.

"Blood libel" has been used to refer to numerous incidents of false accusations of murder and torture used to persecute various groups, including the Cathars and the Knights Templar.

Interestingly enough, the Wikipedia article appears to have been completely revised during the last few days. Look at this Wayback Machine version:

http://web.archive.org/web/20080414025101/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_libel

Then check the current version. All references to "Christians, Cathars, Carthaginians, Knights Templar, witches, Wiccans, Christian heretics, Roma, Druids, neopagans, Native Americans, atheists, communists, and satanists" have been removed.

Once again, Wikipedia proves it can't be trusted for anything but the most non-controversial material.

Mr Tobin is correct, it is getting very hard to keep up with phrases that are not allowed to be used except by chosen groups of people. However he mistakenly limits the off limits phrases to ones associated with Jews. There are many of these that are associated with the African American and Hispanic Communities. Plus a few others. Damn, but it is getting hard to keep up with some of these. But as a good America, I will keep trying.

Alan Dershowitz's opinion on this seems to be reasonable.

"The term “blood libel” has taken on a broad metaphorical meaning in public discourse. Although its historical origins were in theologically based false accusations against the Jews and the Jewish People, its current usage is far broader. I myself have used it to describe false accusations against the State of Israel by the Goldstone Report. There is nothing improper and certainly nothing anti-Semitic in Sarah Palin using the term to characterize what she reasonably believes are false accusations that her words or images may have caused a mentally disturbed individual to kill and maim. The fact that two of the victims are Jewish is utterly irrelevant to the propriety of using this widely used term."

Whether or not the liberals like it, “blood libel” now means wrongly accusing someone of having “blood on their hands” or being responsible for a murder. With the accusation typically made to discredit a political adversary.

Interesting how the left can easily blame Palin, Beck or Rush for this crime.

But they hold Bill Ayers to be without blame, and his close friend Obama - well he is just about perfect, let alone blameless.

The hypocrisy is overwhelming.

Tobin assumes Palin's liberal critics are arguing in good faith & misses the point.

They could care less about the usage of the term 'blood liable' - they were avoiding addressing Palin's point and by changing the subject with this red herring, and ensuring everyone else did, too.

Here’s another example of her lack of hardcore political experience. She never had to use the phrase that others had been using in her defense since the shooting. Let them take the flack. She should’ve risen above the fray. Instead she incorported a term fraught with meaning, both historical and religious, for Jews, and applied it to herself, a Christian.

That’s a tin ear. That’s lack of judgement. And that’s just another reason why this lady is nowhere near being ready — or capable — of leading this nation.
