The big push to blame conservatives for the murderous rampage of Jared Loughner won’t work. In fact, it will backfire. The Left is riding across quicksand on a horse that is dying beneath them. Here are some reasons why.
The Right can fight back: The paramount reason this strategy will fail is that liberal media dominance is gone forever. The Politico offers a disgusting quote from a nameless Democrat operative, suggesting Barack Obama needs to “deftly pin this on the Tea Partiers, just like Clinton deftly pinned the Oklahoma City bombing on the militia and anti-government people.” Leaving aside the question of just how “deft” Clinton’s maneuver was, this isn’t 1995 anymore. Fox News dominates its liberal competition. Conservative websites and magazines draw millions of readers. The Left’s media influence is great, but the era of its total dominion ended decisively with the Dan Rather National Guard memo scandal. (Say, would that calculated attempt to slander a sitting President with forged documents qualify as part of a “climate of hate?”)

* The Left is asking the majority of the country to hate itself: The sweeping victories in the 2010 midterm elections were achieved with strong support from an electorate that refused to follow the Left any further off the rocky cliffs of its ideology.
* The people pushing the “climate of hate” idea are creepy: Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, an early and frequent salesman for the idea that “vitriolic rhetoric” from “people in the radio business and some people in the TV business” caused the shootings, is a bizarre caricature of an inept, politicized cop.
* Obama can’t go where the Left wants to take him: Thus far, President Obama’s statements on the Tucson shootings have been reasonable and even-handed. He’s really not in a position to become Bill Clinton, and make Tucson his Oklahoma City.

The only way any good will come out of this incident is if it leads people to people learn the truth about the phony “blue dogs”.
The victim’s voting record gives good insight into how the “blue dog Democrats” operate.
They will find two or so issues that your District really cares about (typically 2nd Amendment and national defense) and vote “conservative” on those issues.
BUT on other issues which are damaging to America (”Dream Act”, Obamacare, abortion, unemployment extension, etc.) they will vote in a block with the rest of the Democrat party.
This is how the Democrat Party has suckered American voters for years and it is one big reason they have maintained majorities when they should not have.
Unfortunately too many voters focus on their one hot-button issue and don’t look any farther. Perhaps this will change in the aftermath of this tragedy.
Don’t forget in 2003 Hillary Clintoon screaming that she was sick and tired of people telling her it was unpatriotic to argue and disagree with any administration.
I just saw Blue Dog Dem Brad Sherman on Fox with Megyn Kelly. He said the shooter was found to be involved with some extreme right wing material. HE IS A LIAR!

That screech is burned, burned into my psyche—But it does come in very useful at times such as this.
Bill Clinton tried to blame Rush for Oklahoma City bombing. It backfired on him; and he had egg on his face, ended up apologizing to Rush and still looking like “Ned” in the First Reader. After than, he didn’t like to tangle with Rush.
I’ll never forget Hillary’s screaming rant about how dare anyone challenge her RIGHT to argue, criticize, and condemn ANY administration she chose. Of course, that was “Bush” she was criticizing, and anything they chose to do to “Bush” was OK. - Can anyone find any statements by Sheriff Dupnik about how vitriolic it was to write books and do movies depicting the assassination of “Bush”? It seems like he’s arrived rather late on the scene if he looked the other way while the left attacked “Bush” and Republicans with their constant drumbeat of “hate” the right.

Apparently the state run media has forgotten as they are silent about it as well as everything else progressives say that truly is vitriol.
And remember how, prior to 0bama’s regime, dissent was “the highest form of patriotism?” Funny... I don’t see those bumper stickers anymore.
The Far Left will always, always overplay its hand. Every time.
It is due to the Left that it is so difficult to get the unwilling psychotic into treatment in the first place...standard Progressive template; create a terrible problem and profit from the resulting chaos.

Brilliant essay! Loved it! I fully agree with the author that the American public is NOT fooled by these attempts to pin this crime on the Right.
What worries me most is how this may affect future discussions. Will a simple “Throw the bums out!” now be labeled as hate speech? Will we become afraid of using any “gun” references? God forbid it! The Left isn’t afraid of violence (they wrote the book on threatening talk!) but they are certainly interested in spiking all dissent!
The First Amendment must be preserved and protected at all costs. If we want to scream “HANG THE BASTARDS!!” then we MUST be free to do so, stopping short only when somebody actually pulls out a rope with a noose at the end.
Hopefully those numbers will fall. FOX just laid blame for the shooting squarely in the lap of the local sheriff. LOL! Love it!

The blame lies squarely on the nut who pulled the trigger.
But, if there really was an accomplice before the fact, it is Sheriff Dupnick.
And it is now clear that the reason Dupnick lashed out at the right initially is that he was well aware of his own complicity.
What a pathetic little man. His features deserve to be engraved on the same pile of dog shit as Jimmy Carter's...
