Within an hour of Saturday's tragic shooting in Arizona, the Twittersphere had quickly seized on a map put out by Sarah Palin's political action committee last year that had gun-sight images over the congressional districts of House Democrats she wanted to win for the GOP in 2010.
Among her targets: Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona, who was critically wounded by a gunman Saturday. His motives, authorities say, are not fully known. But friends of the suspect, Jared Loughner, have suggested that he had held a grudge for at least three years against Giffords dating back to when he met her in 2007.
Still, some believe that incendiary rhetoric like Palin's bears some responsibility in the tragedy. Giffords herself had previously raised concerns about Palin's map: "The way that she has it depicted has the cross hairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they have got to realize there are consequences to that action."

I don’t think so.
Here’s some quotes from Obama put together by gateway pundit:
The media and democrats want us to focus on the nations caustic political climate after the tragedy yesterday. Maybe they should start with President Obama.
He may be the worst offender.
** Obama: They Bring a Knife
We Bring a Gun
** Obama to His Followers: Get in Their Faces!
** Obama on ACORN Mobs: I dont want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! Im angry!
** Obama to His Mercenary Army: Hit Back Twice As Hard
** Obama on the private sector: We talk to these folks
so I know whose ass to kick.
** Obama to voters: Republican victory would mean hand to hand combat
** Obama to lib supporters: Its time to Fight for it.
** Obama to Latino supporters: Punish your enemies.
** Obama to democrats: Im itching for a fight.
If the media really wants to improve the caustic political climate they may want to start at the White House.
Anything they are spinning about Palin pales in comparison to their Dear Reader’s calls for political violence. And we actually had Union thugs take him up on his violent suggestions and attack people at the Tea Party protests.
(from National Review)
Okay a lot of people continue to insist Sarah Palins Facebook map with some crosshairs on vulnerable districts amounts to incitement to murder, even though the exact same sort of map is fairly common currency among liberals and Democrats, too. And the connection between Palins map and the deranged murderers actions are nothing like proven, or even credible.
Well, lets take them at their word.
Let us hold our fire and talk no more of campaigns.
Let us ban the phrase over the top even when discussing over the top rhetoric.
Never again must we focus on battleground states or even cast our eyes on a battleground poll.
Goodbye ad blitzes, ad wars, and air wars too. Politicians shouldnt fire when ready or unready. And aides should never jump on even a figurative grenade.
This is the end of to union-launched offensives in the trenches and the demise of full-on assaults.
Lets not discuss the nuclear option, and call an end to the wars on poverty and cancer.
We must liberate ourselves from our bunkers and forget defending our territory electorally or metaphorically. Likewise, let us never speak again of opening a new front here, there or anywhere.
Purge from the history books Al Gores oath to stand and fight and John Kerrys schmaltzy reporting for duty.
Alas, I cannot think of what to call this cessation in militaristic discourse, since none dare call it a truce or a ceasefire.
Same Palin haters. They are fooling nobody who knows them by their posts.
The use of rifle sights in political literature or images is a general METAPHOR commonly understood in the English language to indicate zooming in on a target.
For example, “I have my sights set on this person, or institution, or amendment...”. It is NOT meant to be taken literally! ie, it does not mean “I am using my rifle sights so that I can shoot my rifle at that person, (or institution, or amendment...)”
Only desperate, cynical supporters of big zero Obama could read into the metaphorical cross-hairs on Palin’s map any actual lethal intention to kill a person!
But to throw lying dust into people’s eyes in order to protect fraudster Obama from answering any real questions is normal behaviour for gutter politicians and their corrupt media mouthpieces.
Becky Mansour did Sarah no favors by trying to deny that crosshairs are not, but only “surveyor symbols”. This was completely stupid, and makes Sarah appear stupid. It leads to the question as to why Sarah keeps her as a spokeswoman.
When Palin herself posts, she is thoughtful and considerate. She is dumb in allowing Mansour to post in her name.
Thanks very much. I copied that list fromm Robin Masters today. Very telling, isn’t it?
Glenn Beck is on fire!
The mere fact that Palin, who isnt one to hold back in the face of such a sustained attack, hasnt yet responded to any of the criticism suggests she understands the high stakes of the situation and the choices in front of her.
The fact is that politicians say these things because they work, (Republican consultant Todd Harris). The public, or at least segments of the public on the right and the left, respond to it. It raises money and builds organization.
Lots of commonality between Rat and MSM propaganda and their views on Palin. Was wondering when they would start, didn't take too long.
Glenn Beck is on fire in support of Sarah Palin!
Glenn Beck just said, he stands with Sarah Palin.
Good post, thank you
AC, I never saw that thread, but Neal Boortz covered this thoroughly earlier today. You can read his findings on his website at this link: SARAH PALIN'S MAP.
He researched this on the US Geological Survey website and confirmed that those are indeed used by surveyors to mark what are called 'Principal Points' on maps, Polybius' and r9etb's assertions to the contrary notwithstanding. Boortz goes even further and gives examples of Democrat ads using actual bulls eyes.
That said, r9etb's observation that it would have been far better for Palin's aide to not attempt to use this as a defense is correct. Palin and her spokesmen should have just said "So what?" There was absolutely nothing wrong with their political ad/map from last year's campaign.
IBTZ....
Mods, get rid of this piece of garbage
Palin is being accused of murder and this piece of crap decides to make political points. please put a stop to this
I would imagine that Jim would draw the line on letting them help the commies indict Sarah Palin.
Mark came through, too.
He came out blazing for Sarah Palin and now he’s playing clips of their side’s vitriolic HATE speech.
Thanks very much!
Jim has a good eye for such things.
It's *sport* for some here. Those scant few never miss an opportunity to indict her. This time it's serious, as Mark Levin has just discussed. They're tying to hold her responsible for mass murders, using the murdered disprectfully to advance their Marxist agenda and assualt against Sarah Palin.
Unconscionable that a poster or posters here would advance that nasty, vile cause.
