Onyx, do you have a link to the thread last fall where the marks were explained as surveyors marks??

AC, I never saw that thread, but Neal Boortz covered this thoroughly earlier today. You can read his findings on his website at this link: SARAH PALIN'S MAP.

He researched this on the US Geological Survey website and confirmed that those are indeed used by surveyors to mark what are called 'Principal Points' on maps, Polybius' and r9etb's assertions to the contrary notwithstanding. Boortz goes even further and gives examples of Democrat ads using actual bulls eyes.

That said, r9etb's observation that it would have been far better for Palin's aide to not attempt to use this as a defense is correct. Palin and her spokesmen should have just said "So what?" There was absolutely nothing wrong with their political ad/map from last year's campaign.

Exactly. It looks stupid to call them surveyor marks after Sarah herself called them targets/bulls-eyes.
