House Speaker Boehner: Shootings won't deter duty
Washington Examiner ^ | January 09, 2011 | DAN SEWELL

House Speaker John Boehner says that the shooting of an Arizona congresswoman won't stop representatives in Washington from their duties.

In a brief statement Sunday morning, the newly sworn speaker said flags on the House side of the Capitol in Washington will be flown at half staff to honor Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' slain aide, Gabe Zimmerman.

Thirty-year-old Zimmerman was among six killed Saturday in a Tucson, Ariz., shooting rampage that left the Democratic congresswoman among 13 wounded.

Boehner says normal House business this week is postponed to focus on any necessary actions in the shooting aftermath.

There should be no postponements an no necessary actions.

Congress should go on as usual. One crazy nutjob should not interfere with Congress.

I think Cantor said yesterday they were taking a week off? Are the repubs going to work and the dems going to take off? I don’t get it!

I noticed some FReepers speculated the delay was related to security concerns which makes sense.

I only watch Fox news. I’m not really sure why. I’m saddened by the events surrounding the Cogresswoman’s death, but Fox news incessant slovenly coverage of it for 24 hours now was purely disgusting. It showed me how scripted their coverage of anything actually is...I won’t watch them anymore.

I only watch Fox as well, but I am on overload already.

Perhaps I am not recalling it, but did the Fort Hood terrorist attack get this much non-stop coverage?

Then why the postponement for the week? And what do they mean when they say they have to postpone to take necessary steps. I do not recall any delay when the Fort Hood shooting happened and I also don't recall Obama with a prepared speech after it as a matter of fact I remember him giving a shout out to a firend before he made his remarks

I was so sickened by Geraldo last night that I changed the channel in desperation to the Biography channel to see the life of Joan Rivers. Talk about getting my mind of the situation, LOL!

Boehner better get out front on this exploitation by the left of this and the slander being engaged in and get control of the message. The left has turned the tragedy into a political issue - and in responding it should be made clear that the left is who started it, because they did - literally right out of the gate.

Cogresswoman’s death

Her aide died not the congresswoman....I watched FoxNews Sunday...I could see how guarded they were blaming some right wing group over the fact the shooter was as left as left can be.

says Mr. Boehner wiping tears from his eyes, the folks need to endure Obamacare because of this incident in the effort of collegiality and bipartisanship. /sarc

We don’t know what Boehner has been told or asked to do by the FBI. He mentioned having spoken with Dir. Mueller. I let him off the hook for 1 week’s postponement.

Those here who are angry - and rightly so - do need to recall that for my cognizant lifetime it has always been that the media and leftists have blamed conservatives for violence that leftists/sickos perpetrate.

When the Communist Lee Oswald shot JFK, the immediate reaction and by some the permanent one was to claim that he was a right-wing zealot. The citizenry of Dallas and Texas were also blamed. This was a Castro-loving Commie who had preferred living in the Soviet Union under Communism to the USA.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

What is Boehner saying? They can’t chew gum, and walk at the same time!?

Boehner said the exact opposite. He said nothing, no matter how sick or extreme, will stop the Congress from its Constitutional duties. Your imaginings to the contrary are just that, imaginings. He believed before the incident that Obamacare must be repealed, and by his own clear words is saying it will be done after a week’s delay.

We will see, but canceling the vote on the 12th worries me.

The country still has to go on despite this tragedy.

I agree, I’m sorry. Apparantly she has survived (I guess so, I stopped watching), but the coverage is still sickening.

The underlying current is rising to the surface and its manifestation is ugly.

Prayers for the innocent.

"n a brief statement Sunday morning, the newly sworn speaker said flags on the House side of the Capitol in Washington will be flown at half staff to honor Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' slain aide, Gabe Zimmerman. "

What about Judge Roll????

Since WHEN is an aide MORE important than a Judge?

Isn't it time we hear about the little people who have been slain?

Its pretty clear that while W did nothing to fight back against the constant attacks of the left, the marxist in chief freeloader currently in the WH and his comrades have encouraged their followers to demonize the GOP and the right constantly, doing everything from giving them the middle finger to sending union goons to assault peaceful protesters.

The result has been a priming of the pump for political violence of an extreme nature.

While the deranged leftist psycho that attacked this harmless wife and stepmother and other innocents for no apparent reason does not appear to be influenced by this rhetoric, there are thousands out there ready to go if another attack comes.

Therefore, it is imperative that the marxist in chief IMMEDIATELY state that the Tea Party, Palin, Limbaugh, Beck, GOP etc had NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS and get the imbeciles that follow the marxist banner in check.

His failure to do so as of yet is hardly surprising, but the GOP "leadership" ought to be insisting behind the scenes that he do so rather quickly, before all hell really breaks loose.

The marxist in chief has a chance to lead and unite or continue to divide and encourage his supporters to violence.

The silence and insinuations that the right has something to do with this is completely unacceptable behavior from a POTUS.
