He was the last president to be a Revolutionary War veteran. Orphaned at 14 by that war, Andrew Jackson went on to be a country lawyer in the pre-Tennessee Southwest Territory. He soon became the state's first U.S. senator, before resigning. He was also a judge on the Tennessee Supreme Court and commander of Tennessee's militia. Then, in 1819, with two other men, he founded Memphis.
In 1999, Mark Skoda -- now 56 -- moved to Memphis, which set the stage for a new kind of revolution.
Nationwide in 2010, feral Jacksonian populism reigned. This was the year of the tea party.
Some Americans believe the tea party is the noblest venture since the Sons of Liberty took to Boston Harbor; others think it's the most lunatic hodgepodge since the Mad Hatter and March Hare.

Well, count me among the former. I've got family roots in Memphis, and am happy to hear that the Tea Party is alive and well there.
That paper in the link looks amazingly like our local paper. From the typeset to the brainless “liberals” “progressives” “marxists” “socialists” “democrat” replies. They like to bask in the light of the word PROGRESSIVE, but they never say what we are progressing to. I only know that our country was nearly perfect in implementation for nearly a hundred years, and it has progressively gotten worse. That is REgression, maybe since they call us teabaggers, we should call them REGRESSIVES.
The commies are going ballistic in the comments section. Every other word is ‘racist’. BTW, who’s coming to the National TEA Party Convention in Memphis this April? http://myteapartyconvention.com/
feral Jacksonian populismThe best description yet of the Tea Party.
You are a den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the eternal God, I will rout you out! - Andrew Jackson to the banksters of that era.

Yep, when he was Young Hickory he was a runner through Brit lines and delivered messages to Patriot forces. Even as a kid, Jackson knew no fear.
Very interesting guy.
He was one of the handful of great presidents, the last until Lincoln to win reelection, and founded the Democratic Party, leaving the remnants of Jefferson’s party to fade away.
Andy Jackson or Mark Skoda?
Mark Scoda.
