WASHINGTON -- He dropped off most voters' radar screens after losing a 2004 bid to represent Georgia in the U.S. Senate.

But conservative Atlanta radio show host Herman Cain has hardly forgotten about politics.

In fact, he may be running for president in 2012.

Cain, a Republican, said he is "one step closer" toward announcing a bid for president after the GOP's big sweep of the November midterm elections.

For now, Cain said he is putting out feelers and "prayerfully considering" a run, and he will make a decision sometime early next year.

"Right now I'm in the process of contacting people who are very enthusiastic about a campaign," Cain said. "Over the next few weeks, we'll be seeing if we can tap into the energy we saw [in November]," for a presidential bid.

Does anyone know him though. Sheesh an actor in Hollywood on a top rated tv show could not get the nomination last time. It is tough to receive the nomination especially from a “no name”. Yes he sounds like a good guy but name recognition goes a long way.

He has a mountain to climb, no doubt. But some folks know him. He’s been very popular in conservative circles for years.

When you see me teling folks to consider Mitt/Huck/TPaw/Thune/Newt/Paul/Daniels/Johnson/Pataki/Gregg/Santorum/Jeb/Christie/Ryan/Rubio/Trump/Dobbs/Perry instead of Precious, you’ll have a point.

Until then, you, like most cultists, are just blowing noxious gas.

LOL! That is true and, for whatever reason, Hannity gets a lot of listeners and this is great exposure for Herman.

I would say more than a step this is a jump. This manis well versed in real world economics, politics, negotiations etc. This guy is the total package. Name recognition might be a problem tho.

I like Herman Cain. Excellent businessman. I don’t know if he can raise the money for a POTUS run.

I wish Cain would run for Saxby Chambliss’ GA Senate seat. Cain would have a much better chance of capturing Saxby’s seat than POTUS.

I hope he does run. The more choices the better. He’s a quality guy. He may or may not make the final cut, but maybe the person that does will put him in the Veep position.

I just remembered he’s on Hannity today- just turned it on.

I’m listening on WABC online and the audio keeps skipping...weird.
