Though the Eagles didn’t have a chance to make news on the field tonight, they made some more news off the field.
Peter King of NBC reported during Football Night in America that President Barack Obama recently called Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie to congratulate the team for giving quarterback Mike Vick a second chance.
President Obama explained that a level playing field rarely exists for prisoners who have completed their sentences. Vick’s success gives all of them hope.
In our view, Obama’s gesture also provides Vick with the kind of positive reinforcement that will help keep him out of any trouble during the 2011 offseason, once he is left to his own devices.
There’s an image I can’t quite forget, and it’s a cruelty that I don’t think ever goes away....
....Vick had enough money to have those dogs who so angered him be given a needle to rid them from his life. Not that this was right given the dog fighting thing but let’s just allow that if Vick wanted the dogs be gone from his life, he certainly had the funds to pay a flackie to give them a quick needle that they be gone.
But Vick himself personally took those dogs by their back legs and flung them viciously against a brick wall that they die horrifically.
Vick did this. It’s an awful thing to do and requires a huge amount of cruelty in one’s psyche.
I allow that he did his time, I think he has a right to pursue his craft, I’ll even believe Vick won’t do it again cause he doesn’t want to get caught and for no other reason that I’ll buy.
But don’t ask me to forgive that kind of cruelty. Best I can do is try not to think about it at all.
I also reserve the right to never root for the Phillies or any team with Vick on it, I think Obama should not even go there with this ersatz praise of Vick, I reserve the right to not be upset if Vick gets hurt during the play though I’ll not wish it.
Anybody that can do to a living thing what Vick did will never be trusted/liked or admired in my world. And for sure HE SHOULD NOT EVER AGAIN BE GIVEN A DOG...please let’s not be THAT dumb.
Dogs are a really low life form for Islam.

If Vick was white I bet he’d have a hard time finding a job at Wendy’s.
Just cuz you serve your time doens’t mean your actions do not carry consequence the rest of your life.
Vick is filth. He never should have waltz back into a millionares job playing a game.

His status as someone who got out of jail should not have any bearing on the fact that he does something well enough to make a lot of money.
It doesn't even have to be anger. Breeders who are striving to achieve a physical or temperamental characteristic in their flock/herd/whatever cull ruthlessly. Sometimes the animals are neutered and disposed of as 'pet' quality, but sometimes they are HUMANELY put down. They are not tortured to death to please the owner.
He didn’t get out of jail.
He got out of prison.
Prison because he was convicted of torturing to death over and over some of the most innocent among us.
How we treat animals deeply reflects on our character and often how we treat people.
Hell with him.
Hell with the NFL.
I hope his name is forever tainted with this.

Vick paid his debt to society, so I see no problem with his playing again.
On the other hand, why in the hell is the President of The United States concerning himself with this?

How come he doesn’t applaud the Steelers for giving BB a second chance? Or could he be a racist?
Vick did the crime and did the time. I don’t like him a bit, but that does not diminish his ability to do what he does at a high level. I’d rather watch him play ball than watch Obama try to destroy our nation.
That said, I would not cry for him if he did get hurt.
I watched just enough of the Packers' game yesterday to catch up on the score (GO PACK GO!)
Then this morning I was met with this almost irresistable urge to buy a prayer rug, convert to islam and rob my local 7-11. I guess TV really is evil.
