Charles Krauthammer: Obama’s New Start - Republicans no longer have the wind at their backs.

Obama's New Start
Republicans no longer have the wind at their backs.

Riding the lamest of ducks, President Obama just won the Triple Crown. He fulfilled (1) his most important economic priority, passage of Stimulus II, a.k.a. the tax-cut deal (the perfect pre-reelection fiscal sugar high — the piper gets paid in 2013 and beyond); (2) his most important social-policy objective, repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell”; and (3) his most cherished (achievable) foreign-policy goal, ratification of the New START treaty with Russia.

Politically, these are all synergistic. The bipartisan nature of the tax deal instantly repositioned Obama back to the center. And just when conventional wisdom decided the deal had caused irreparable alienation from his liberal base, Obama almost immediately won it back — by delivering one of the gay-rights movement’s most elusive and coveted breakthroughs.

The symbolism of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal cannot be underestimated. It’s not just that for the civil-rights community, it represents a long-awaited extension of the historic arc — first blacks, then women, now gays. It was also Obama decisively transcending the triangulated trimming of Bill Clinton, who instituted “don’t ask, don’t tell” in the first place. Even more subtly and understatedly, the repeal represents the taming of the most conservative of the nation’s institutions, the military, by a movement historically among the most avant-garde. Whatever your views, that is a cultural landmark...

No. The military is being subjected to extreme "command influence" from Obozo, including the bogus push-polling "questionnaires" that were put out and then cited frequently and fraudulently in the runup to Obozo's coup. This is abuse of the people who are between us and a horde of mass-murderers. This is intolerable -- but the gays will try to limp-leg us and hope things die down now that they have their little "win." BS. It's backlash time.

Defund the process until Sarah can get here.

Or until 0bastard gets tossed out early...

She will straighten these guys out shake-shake.

If the Repubs controlling the House don't de-fund every single dang thing that it's possible to defund, then we've used all but the last box.

Krauthammer has gone too rapturous over this. Obama did not get the trillion dollar plus spending bill — that was the one he wanted most. Also, he did not get immigration reform which is a much more important goal of his than don’t ask don’t tell repeal. That said, ending don’t ask don’t tell is a disaster, as is the Start Treaty.

Still not sure how a defeated supermajority using their last moments in power to enact unpopular legislation before they lose power is a victory. Passing liberal agenda items with a liberal supermajority is not an achievement...it is a certainty.

“Krauthammer is getting to be a genuine, 24 kt pain in the ass.”

Here is my take on Krauthammer. He’s ticked off at the Tea Party types and is getting back at them. I don’t think Charles ever really psychologically recovered from the attack on him by the right for his anti-Palin stance, and his advice not being taken about not voting for Christine O’Donnell as opposed to voting for Mike Castle. When he was vociferously taken to task by the Tea Party and other serious conservatives for his unsolicited advice, his elitist self got his nose very out of joint. So, now he is sticking it to us for having ignored his opinions, and then having the audacity to attack him to boot. Payback time. Lets irritate the fiscal conservatives and Tea Partiers bigtime, and take pleasure in doing so.

His pen is mighty as his sword. Look at the dust he is stirring up on the right. What fun he must be having doing so. Needle, needle, stiletto time. You poke at me, I’ll stab at you with my pen. Who gets the last laugh. Of course, the end result will be that Charles will no longer be trusted by the right, as we did before. We will be looking at anything he writes with a jaundiced eye. So, in the end, does this tactic and payback by Charles accrue to his benefit or to his detriment. I maintain it is the latter, as Charles is not trusted at all by the left, and now the right is wary of him too. Where will Charles end up, with the rest of the mushy middle of no ideology, the perennial and gutless fence sitters? Charles, is that where you really want to be?

That's where the 2000 page 0bambicare and all the other bills came from.

Please tell us more. Who are these people, where do they come from? Who funds them (funded them before 2008)? How do they eat? Are they apparatchiks in the old Bolshevik sense?

And .... where do they nest?

Even when I don’t like what he’s saying, Charles Krauthammer is usually right. He’s very insightful. In this article he’s not siding with Obama, he’s just stating that Obama has helped to pass controversial legislation with a Lame Duck Congress, which is all the more impressive after the humiliating defeat of Democrats at the polls. And he’s right. Although I wish he wasn’t.

Whatever respect I ever had for Krauthammer just went right out the window.

Ramming through patently unpopular policy changes during a lame duck congress and then scooting off to Hawaii is just another indication of how badly Obama despises most Americans — who are coming to despise him right back.

It’s a good thing I live in Japan. I’d be tempted to go out and find an Obama voter just so I could PUNCH HIM IN THE MOUTH!

I swear I am totally baffled by how the refusal to allow Obama to RAISE taxes in the teeth of the worst economic downturn since the great depression accrues to a “win” for him.

Were rates allowed to increase it would have been nothing short of catastrophic for the economy. If the thinking is that keeping rates down would improve the economy (or keep it from worsening) and that would benefit the libs, then fine. BUT, let’s keep in mind that Obama’s promise since he began running in 2007 was to REPEAL, or allow to sunset the Bush tax cuts and he failed to do this to the benefit of the country. His base was and still is furious with him which lends credence to the idea he was soundly trounced, politically on this.

I expect the left, desperate as they are to attempt to spin this to their favor but I wonder about Krauthammer’s take on this and see no logic to his thinking.

Politically he lost and America won. As the economy improves he surely will take the credit for it, or will attempt to anyway.

Notice how it is forgotten by the likes of Krauthammer and the lib media that Obama had his two MAJR initiatives demolished? The Omnibus Budget Bill and the DREAM Act? Gitmo closing is also dead but all we here from the spinning press is how well he has done.

"Even when I don’t like what he’s saying, Charles Krauthammer is usually right.

Actually, as so many threads show, Krauthammer is usually wrong.

And he is always in bed with Obama the undocumented Sociopath.
Incompetent Krauthammer, pseudoshrink, supports sociopaths into power.

Krauthammer falls into the trap of the left by fully embracing their terminology and all its false implications. By spouting the ‘gay rights’ meme, he unwittingly gives them ground, illegitimate ground.

I really have to disagree w/ Charles on this one. The repeal was merely repayment to a small constituency.

This constituency is much larger than militant homosexuals. It is comprised by all radical leftists, most mind-numbed government-school teenagers, (re)education, the media and the entertainment/porn industry.
