WASHINGTON -- In a landmark vote, the Senate on Saturday ended the Clinton-era ban on gays serving openly in the military, marking a major triumph for President Obama, liberals and the gay community.
The final vote to end the Pentagon's 1993 "don't ask, don't tell" policy was 65-31, drawing support from eight Republicans.
The bill now goes to the White House for Obama's signature. He is expected to sign the bill into law next week, a senior White House aide told Fox News.
Bet you guys serving in the military feel like chumps now. :)
You’re only as good as the politicians who need to be re-elected let you be.
What a slap in the face to everybody. :(
YES -I was thinking pretty similar thoughts premised upon the obvious e.g. you can not legislate morality to change what is written into the very fiber of man's being by God.
This, for what it is, will be but a hollow and temporary victory for those who are but hollow and temporary that think they can legislate against what God has created and evidenced in natural law -you cannot fool mother nature...
There is passive resistance and all that has to be done is delay UNTIL enough of the leftists are run out of Washington. What can be written by man can as well be unwritten. A Congress that controls military policy today is a Congress that controls military policy tomorrow and a Congress that will reverse this nonsense -watch and see...
“Secession belongs to a different class of remedies. It is to be justified upon the basis that the States are Sovereign. There was a time when none denied it. I hope the time may come again, when a better comprehension of the theory of our Government, and the inalienable rights of the people of the States, will prevent any one from denying that each State is a Sovereign, and thus may reclaim the grants which it has made to any agent whomsoever.”
Jefferson Davis
Kirk - who took Burris’s place, right? Fantastic. Wasted effort putting a republican in that seat.
I'd surmise that I may be among the older demographic here on Free Republic and this may come off as being an old fogey. But anyway...
I can't fathom just how upside down my country has become in my lifetime.
Years ago, a good host always made sure an ashtray was on the coffee table for guests to enjoy a nice smoke after a hearty meal. Now a smoker has about the same status as racist, perhaps the most evil thing you can call a person nowadays. Worse than a murderer is being a racist.
I well recall when words like "hel**" and "da**" were uttered very infrequently (see Clark Gable in GWTW). Now the f-word is ubiquitous but woe to anyone of my generation who might slip up with the so-called n-word. That's the unforgivable sin nowadays.
And now THIS. A homosexual military! It wasn't all that long ago (at least in my memory) when gay meant happy and carefree. Those are adjectives not applicable in any way to men committing the barnyard acts you cited. What a sick, crazy, mixed up world it's become when the depravity of homosexuality is considered the norm.
They might be outraged, they might be saddened, but I can't imagine anyone serving today would be so clueless to the shifting political winds as to have been surprised.
For crying out loud, I knew it was a foregone conclusion the moment Obama was sworn in. The only thing I'm surprised about is that it took this long.
I wont keep my mouth shut. Whats true is true and I wont be forced to accept a lie.
***********************************************
But then doesn’t that make it true—they’ve only transferred DADT, they didn’t repeal anything.
I have such a headache thinking about all this craziness— I forget which military big-wig said: if any serving have a problem with gays openly serving, they best find a new job. (the gist of it anyhow)
So, what good have these congress-critters done—even in their twisted ‘social justice’ minds? They’ve just switched who is to be forced to keep their mouth shut—deny their lifestyle/beliefs—if they want to serve.
It’s a bunch of convoluted madness, in my eyes.
In some commands that are authorized dependent travel, the limited number of available housing units requires that individuals being assigned go on a housing list. Some families will now be denied travel to join their sponsor as a consequence of two "gay" members occupying family housing. They can't tell me that won't have an effect on morale.
Unfortunately, the homosexual activisits do not share your opinion.
You repeat the TIRED “INNACURATE IN THE SUBJECTIVE “MANTRA.....
Oh, all these other countries have gays serving in the military....
1) Most of these countries do NOT have large combat missions, or a huge military.
2) countries, like Israel, Brits etc. do not have the AGGRESSIVE GAY AGENDA the US has cause of the Libs and our Left. Gays in the military in those countries do not march in Gay Pride marches, sue their military etc.
so technically ..yes, other countries have gays in the military...SUBJECTIVELY it is very very different.
Ever since Shinseki put Berets on our soldiers...well, cute aren’t they...the feminization of our military began? Pvt Manning sure is cute in his pic with the Beret as the hero of Wikileaks...Drama Queen! Oh and lets not forget Col Karpinski (uh, Abu grabe?)..the dyke writes a book, a la drama queen, about how mean everyone was to her.
You mischaracterized my post.
I didn’t say that since heterosexuals outnumber homosexuals we set the agenda.
Although, I do think this country was founded on the idea of majority rule.
Of course, the militant homosexuals and others of their ilk don’t believe in such things.
My point was that those of us who don’t approve of this kind of trash should not just roll over, but make our voices heard. And the reality is that those who yell the loudest get what they want. Being the majority means you can yell louder if you choose to.
I must have missed that memo...
It appears you are the one attempting the create the 'memo' from thin air...
I see no such thing...
Brown, Collins, Snowe, Kirk, Murkowski, Voinovich, Burr and Ensign are now official tea party targets for removal from the public forum. This is clearly a criminal bill. No telling what payolla the Repubs extracted from the democrats for their disgusting vote.
CWII Ping?
You'll probably have to settle for only getting half back, IMO the better half.
I want my country back too.
So when do we break out our “gear” and a teach these bastards the meaning of fear?
Army, Marine Corps and Air Force opposed overturning DADT at this point in time. The warriors overwhelmingly oppose it. But you’re right, why would I be surprised when the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs tells the warriors to STFU and get out if they don’t like it.
This is how the Marxists, socialists and communists in our government intend to destroy historys greatest and most lethal military.
Thanks! Merry Christmas
