The exception, of course, was the Commandant of the Marine Corps. But that’s because he’s a Marine.
I have been extraodinarily surprised at the responses at the top military commanders. The Marine Corp Commandant is the only one that has been honest about it. I read that these days officers and senior enlisted are constantly getting diversity training. Sometimes I have a hard time imaginging this group of Generals and Admirals accomplishing anything close to what was done in WWII.
That's precisely why my dad chose to leave the military after he made LtCol. He told me once, that the higher he went in rank, the more the job had to do with politics, and the less it had to do with soldiering.

Political correctness is abusive, deadly and careless. I hate to see what gays out of the closet are going to look like in the military. Gay officers with speical rights to have sexual dominance over their men and women? Just like the jihadist at Fort Hood was a known radical but had special rights because he was a Muslim? It is going to be bad. But the bad is going to be hidden.
