Sarah Palin has played a prominent role in defining Republican Party politics this year but still faces sizable obstacles if she decides to run for president in 2012, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
Six in 10 voters say they would not even consider voting for the former Alaska governor if she launches a White House bid, and she loses badly to President Obama in a hypothetical 2012 general election test.

Will Obama wiggle off the hook in 2012?
I don’t think Sarah is in as bad of shape as this poll indicates. All she has to do is be a viable alternative to Obama and come across well. shes likable
I do not think Palin should run for president.
I think Palin is much more effective as a campaigner for other candidates.
Frankly, I would like to see Paul Ryan and Mitch Daniels and Jim Demint run.
Huckabee and Romney may run and either one might make a considerable go of it.
These media polls are so unreliable. The election is two years out, and there is a huge base of support for Sarah that nobody ever polls. Not a problem.
What these polls DO reveal, however, is how the media fear her. When the leftist media thinks the left can beat a candidate, they are all over themselves saying what a wonderful challenger to Obama their trojan horse candidate is. For example, John McCain. Or Huckabee. You know, those losers.
You believe this horse crap do you? I don’t; not for a second.
Wanna bet? Obama is proof positive that its possible
I think she should run. I think she has a duty to run because of her supporters. She has a lot of support and ways to raise a lot of money.
This country needs a strong conservative leader.
and she needs to prove the media wrong and win.
I read a poll a few months back that stated that 56 percent of Americans are in line with Palin’s point of views and 44 percent believed in Obama’s.
Let Sarah get into a head-to-head debate with Obama and let’s see where the polls go after that.
“You believe this horse crap do you? I dont; not for a second.”
I do. It’s consistent with what I hear from people.
I can't figure out why people on this board and elsewhere spend so much time squabbling about whether Sarah Palin is electable. If she's the buffoon her detractors claim she won't last much past the first primary debate. If she's the political talent I think she is, she'll sweep to the nomination and emerge from the GOP convention as the most formidable nominee since Reagan. Time will tell; one side of the great debate is going to look darn foolish when it does.
I’m hoping for PLENTY of decent choices for ‘12 GOP POTUS, if Sarah Palin runs or not! Barack Obama is beatable, and Barack might, even, have Democratic challengers for ‘12 POTUS, too. IMHO, I doubt it, but he might have one or more Democratic challengers for POTUS, in ‘12.
I’m not sold on her, but I hope she runs. She may not be the most conservative candidate in the race, but she’ll be the most conservative of the front-runners(who I’d say will be Palin, Romney, Huckabee, and Gingrich.) And that will put the heat on the Kennedy wing Republicans. If some lesser known conservative candidate catches fire then great, but man, it’s going to be a miserable primary season if it ends up being just Romney, Huckabee, and Gingrich battling it out. I’d love to see Palin go through the primary process—all the speeches involved in that, all the debates, town halls, etc. I think it would become apparent pretty quickly whether she has what it takes or not.
6 in 10 won’t vote for her? Hey, not bad for a poll of their own newsroom.
It's the exact opposite of what I hear from people. They (media) were saying the same things about Reagan - but once the American people saw him in debates and really got to know him without the media filter, the left's narrative (and that's all this is) went out the window.
If it were only those three I'd seriously consider sitting on my hands.
The poll was wapo/abc, no subjectivity bias from them, you think? s/
Elect Sarah Palin for President 2012
Re-Elect President Sarah Palin 2016
Yes he certainly is, and the media is trying too hard to convince us that Sarah could not beat him. I do not believe their agenda-driven narrative. It is as Rush says about Palin and the media - they will tell us who they really fear - and they are telling us, if we have enough sense to recognize it for what it is.
You believe the Washington Post and ABC why? Anyone who’s ever been involved in polling knows you can make a poll say just about anything you want it to, based on the questions and the demographics.
The only logical ticket I see for 2012 is DeMint/Ryan.
I don’t think in the final analysis, Sarah Palin’s ego
is so large that she would consider undermining the forward momentum of our new movement by foisting herself on the Presidential process when strong indications are to the contrary that she might lose to a strong (and as yet unnamed) Presidential prospect for the Democrats.
Everybody knows what to expect from the other side
if Palin is proposed, since we’re already seeing and hearing it every single day.
Jim DeMint has steadily been emerging and EXACTLY the kind of leader our new movement needs, and it’s been going on for quite awhile now. The RINOS, I expect, will make a desperate but benighted move to put Mitt Romney in there:
he is EXACTLY what we don’t need, and will only gum up the works.
