Convicted paedophiles are finding it easy to get jobs in (American) schools because teachers are failing to stop them and hushing up cases of abuse, an official report has found.
In nearly three-quarters of school abuse cases the offender already had a criminal record for paedophilia but was allowed to work there anyway.
Worryingly, more than half of the offenders went on to use their new positions to claim more victims than they had done before.
The report's authors say the figures are so high because teachers are hushing up cases by letting a sex offender resign quietly and move on somewhere else.
In some cases they even write them glowing letters of recommendation so they can get teaching jobs elsewhere.
Rep George Miller, Democrat, California had requested the probe and said it should leave parents 'very concerned'.
'My first reaction is just one of anger,' he said.
'I spent my entire life working with young children and then to see that in fact with knowledge, a school official passed a convicted child abuser and molester on to another school system by covering up that information in the record. It's outrageous.
'These children were put in this unsafe position because adults in charge of their well-being failed to do their job,' said the outgoing chair of the House education committee.
'Parents have a right to believe that their children are safe in schools'.
The study was carried out by the General Accountability Office, which examines how effectively public funds are being used.
Its researchers looked into 15 sample cases of abuse in public and private schools between 2007 and 2009 where the offenders works as teachers, support staff, volunteers or contractors.
Of the 15, at least 11 were convicted sex offenders who had previously targeted children.

The Catholic Church looked the other way and was condemned.
Teachers (unionized, of course) look the other way and......
nothing to see here, move along, move along.
Such is liberalism.
Shakes head...
The NEA no doubt covered it up.
How do these people sleep at night?
I know they want to avoid the hassle of someone trying to fight them on it, but it should be mandated like child abuse is mandated to be reported.
This is a darkness. The spirit of the anti-christ seems to be roaming.
The real reason teachers oppose teaching sexual abstinence. Don’t want the students saying “no”.
Doesn’t fit with the agenda of pervs being OK.
Christ and His believers NEVER will be OK with libs.

With a child in their bed. Why do you ask?
Sure the teachers are hushing it up. They are usually the sex offenders.
Not a surprise at all.
Surely there are criminals that can figure ways around any system. However I think this article is off base. To get a job even as a pt cafeteria worker in our school district you need to submit fingerprints and your State and Federal criminal records are checked. In addition you are checked through child abuse records in family court records. All this before you even get to an interview.
And home schoolers get damned because their kids don’t get ‘socialized’ (or sodomized.)
If only teachers were allowed to marry. /s
Some crimes fit the punishment my dad used to reserve for drunk drivers who kill: “String ‘em up at the nearest lamppost.”
They would stand condemned like the Catholic Church if Christians had smart organizers and representatives to make it known to the public and run politicans against the child molestors. The major parties in Europe are all socially liberal. They are trying (and have very successful) in making both parties in the US socially liberal, too.
Need a way to sue the teachers unions.
No deep pockets.
Keving Jennings is pleased.
DUH they go where the prey is.
