Carter: Biggest failure was '80 loss
politico ^

Former President Jimmy Carter says his biggest failure during his term in the White House was that he didn't get to spend another four years there.

"I guess my biggest failure was not getting reelected," he said in an interview with Big Think, referring to the 1980 presidential election.

Carter, 86, said the loss taught him "not to ever let American hostages be held for 444 days in a foreign country without extracting them." He added, "I did the best I could, but I failed."

Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) challenged Carter in the Democratic primaries "and then that cost me a lot of votes," the former president said.

Iran Hostage Crisis:

Disaster in the desert - deaths of eight American servicemen.

A daring US military rescue operation codenamed Eagle Claw ended in further US humiliation in April 1980. The plan was to land aircraft covertly in the desert allowing special forces to infiltrate Tehran and free the 52 hostages.

But the planning was flawed, and the mission had to be aborted when two helicopters were damaged in a sandstorm and failed to reach the rendez-vous point. Worse was to come when another crashed into a transport plane as it was pulling out.

Until two years ago I didn't think it was even possible for a POTUS to be a bigger failure than Carter, EVERYTHING he did was a disaster.

Doesn't he realize the fact that he needed to LEARN that is a problem?

carter’s biggest failure was being born.

You beat me to it. I was thinking his biggest failure was crying when the doctor slapped him on the rear.

"I guess my biggest failure was not getting reelected,"

Not destroying the economy with crippling inflation?

Not leaving Americans to rot in an Iranian prison for 14 months?

Not dabbling in the Israel/Palestine question like a hack amateur?

Not the inherent insanity of new oil/old oil?

Not "malaise"...a vision of America as a country in decline?

Not being an incompetent boob?

Go to your room, Jimmeh...

"Former President Jimmy Carter says his biggest failure during his term in the White House was that he didn't get to spend another four years there."

I dare say that most real Americans would disagree with Jimmah's assessment, and on the contrary would say that his biggest failure was the four years he did spend in the White House.

I read it.Ill let him speak for himself...

“I should have paid more attention to the organization of the Democratic Party,” Carter said. “I was not only the leader of our nation, but I was also the leader of the Democratic Party. And I think I failed in that respect to keep the party united.”

I remember when Jimmah lectured Americans to “get over your inordinate fear of communism.”

And all he’s done ever since is attempt to punish America for diselecting him in 1980 and by tripping up every one of his Republican successors.

Arrogant little snot!

Failures:

Iran hostages, Ramsey Clark, giving away the Panama Canal, disavowing a free Taiwan, 3 Mile Island, Stagflation, Misery Index, the "Malaise" Speech, gas lines, energy crisis, high unemployment, abandoning the Shah of Iran, attacking religious based schools and charity grous, ...just to name a few.

And to think his post presidency since the early 90s has been just as bad.

America’s 2nd greatest failure was electing this nimrod in 1976. America’s 1st greatest failure resulted in the current nimrod residing in the White House.
