In case there was any doubt, Linda McMahons political career may not be over.
The former wrestling executive turned Connecticut GOP Senate candidate has scheduled a personal meeting with National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (Texas) on Capitol Hill. The date and purpose of the meeting, however, is unclear.
I dont know what her message is going to be, but I sort of suspect she isnt finished, Cornyn said in a recent Roll Call interview when asked about McMahon, who garnered 43 percent of the vote in Connecticuts recent Senate contest against Democratic Sen.-elect Richard Blumenthal.
McMahons personal wealth will allow her to remain competitive should she decide to run again.
A co-founder of World Wrestling Entertainment, McMahon loaned her unsuccessful campaign $49.5 million over the 2010 cycle the largest personal investment ever in a losing Congressional bid, according to a Roll Call analysis.
She and her husband, WWE CEO Vince McMahon, reported income of $9 million to $13.9 million last year, according to a personal financial disclosure report released in June. The couple also owned assets valued at $103 million to $370 million.
Her ability to self-fund in 2010 allowed Republicans to compete in a Democratic-leaning state without the need for financial assistance from the NRSC. Republicans would love to do the same thing in 2012 with the seat currently occupied by Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman, who caucuses with Democrats.
Lieberman has yet to say whether he will seek re-election and Roll Call Politics has rated his race a Tossup.
McMahons meeting with Cornyn isnt expected until after the new year.
David M. Drucker and Kyle Trygstad contributed to this report.
Don’t you imagine that Cornyn is urging her NOT to run and to endorse LIEberman?
No- like the article says, Cornyn’s just looking for another self-funding candidate. (Actually winning the seat isn’t a priority).
I think the article said that Linda “loaned” her campaign 49 million. Cornyn is likely trying to help her get that paid off by one way, or another, having little to do with the conservative moverment, saving the Republic, or getting us solvent. Just guessin’.
Yeah, those tea partiers were so responsible for weak candidates who lost.
What? You say more of the losers were Cornyn’s and the state parties’ picks? How could that be?
Bingo. As I recall the CT GOP chairman’s wife was hired onto the McMahon gravy train.
Looking to run the RNC
Maybe because there isn't any such animal there.
“Maybe because there isn’t any such animal there.”
Yeah, but that’s the same argument that people were told about NJ for so many years.
Maybe they’re not looking in the right places.
I kind of like her, but I don’t see her winning unless it is a threeway race.
If it is a threeway race, I’d rather Peter Schiff be the GOP nominee.
Here’s an e mail from them today
In case you want to give them a piece of your mind, here’s the chance. The survey has two response blocks to unload on them.
I did. Hope they get the message...... no money. I chose who to contribute to and DID!

We need your input.
Thanks to your vote in November the Obama administration and Democrats in the Senate can no longer refuse to work with Republicans. With a much slimmer Democrat majority the GOP now has a very important seat at the negotiating table and we want to make sure your voice is heard.
Theres a lot we need to do to fix our country including reducing spending, getting the economy back on track, creating jobs and stopping the government takeover of health care. Please take the following survey and answer a few questions about the issues that are important to you. We will share the results with the entire Senate Republican Conference when the new Congress is sworn in at the beginning of January.
Thank you again for all the hard work you did in 2010. Because of you Republicans made historic victories and the message you sent with your vote was heard.
I hope you and your family have a joyful holiday season and a Happy New Year.
Sincerely,
Rob Jesmer
NRSC Executive Director

Thanks. Completely agree.
I love this line:
“...Thank you again for all the hard work you did in 2010. Because of you Republicans made historic victories and the message you sent with your vote was heard.”
No, the RGA, the NRCC, and the state-level Republicans made historic victories. The NRSC had a mediocre performance...
Maybe Cornyn can draft Alvin Greene to run on the GOP ticket.
