Sales Tax
“Sales tax” is imposed on a seller’s receipts from sales of tangible personal property for use or consumption. Tangible personal property does not include real estate, stocks, bonds, or other “paper” assets representing an interest.
If the seller (typically an out-of-state business, such as a catalog company or a retailer making sales on the Internet) does not charge Illinois Sales Tax, the purchaser must pay the tax directly to the department.
I paid these taxes for several (but not every) years. Rough estimate, but I figured it was easier to pay it then deal with it later.
Or if you are correct, until people are threatened with enforcement of the laws, they will break the laws.
Most people already voluntarily report the taxes they owe — when they think there is some chance the state would catch them if they didn’t. Sometimes, high-ranking democrats skip paying their taxes, and we trash them as lawbreakers.

It’s a use tax (as in sales/use tax) - you owe it on purchases made from out of state vendors.
WHen people are told that they won’t be caught, a lot of people decide to break the law. Have you seen riots? That’s what happens when people only follow laws because they might get caught. As soon as the chance of getting caught drops low enough, they think its is perfectly fine to rob a store — after all, the store sticks it to them with high prices, so they are just getting them back.
Shows what truly “voluntary” payment for services/goods is like.
Our freedom will not survive if enforcement is needed to keep the average citizen from breaking the law. But we are close to the breaking point — people are taught to do “whatever they can get away with”.
I wonder how many people here would stop paying ALL of their taxes if they could get away with it, just to “stiff” the local, state, and federal governments.
And when the governments failed, and anarchy reigned, I wonder how many people here would be happy when the criminals broke into their homes, stole their property, abused their family, and there were no police to stop them since nobody paid their taxes anymore.
It used to be a line on the state income tax form, but now it’s its own form, which makes things more confusing. I paid it for several years, and noticed that my accountant hadn’t put it on there, so I asked him to last year.

Those taxes were legitimate by all appraisals.
Purchasing by mail from another state is interstate commerce, and to this date, no state has been authorized to tax interstate commerce.

It should be listed in your yearly income tax forms. However, it is likely that almost nobody pays the tax.
In virginia, I believe they had 285 people file the “use tax” form in one year. The rate of compliance is very low.
Of course, the rate of compliance on speed limits is also very low, but they aren’t going to repeal the speed limit laws.

Well, given that govenment takes a combined bite of more than 50% of the average taxpayer's income, there seems to be little chance that this horrific state of affairs will come to pass any time soon, so you can sleep soundly knowing that there are armies of agents scouring every nook and cranny looking for any single penny that might have escaped from taxation by our lords and masters.
Btw, I really thought your equating people who rob a store with people who don't pay taxes. Really puts your "conservatism" into sharp perspective.
Personally, I'd say the government stealing money from the taxpayers at the point of a gun has more in common with the rioters you describe.
God only asks for 10%. What makes you or the government think it has a moral right to more than that?
Following laws is a conservative issue! You’re muddying the intellectual waters by bringing in whether there’s a moral right to more than 10%.
What sort of religion do you follow that allows for no taxation more than 10? Your question sounds like something that was once put to Jesus as a way to trick him.
illinois is promoting the fact you can avoid their confiscatory tax plans.
CA has a new law going into effect January 1, 2011. CC companies will be reporting sales information, so CA can go after due taxes for online purchases. That's what I heard. Bothers me, as I purchase a lot over the Internet with my CC.

There is that whole pesky due process issue.
I think we may be getting to that point, sooner than you think. I don't like that the fruit of my labor is being confiscated by Obama's minions for redistribution to those that seek to destroy me. Many others agree.
There will be great numbers of threatened people, and it only takes a small fraction of those numbers that will be willing to take retaliatory action against evil government. If the government fined you heavily enough, you might be inclined to later go postal on them. I'm not advocating this as an option, just saying it's human nature.
