Who is Obama trying to win over with his appeal to Clinton?

I think I got my answer from a friend who is basically conservative but is non-political and definitely not idealogical. Kind of a “can’t we all just get along and sing Kum Ba Yah type”.

Her opinion was that Obama did a good thing by reaching out to Clinton to help bring along the compromise. Obama should be putting the welfare of the country above partisan politics and his outreach to Clinton shows he is doing that. After all, isn’t the best thing for the country having this deal? Those are her words, not mine.

I listen to her because she is the type of person both parties struggle to win over. Obama won her over with his reaching out to Clinton.

Look to those types of people and you will usually come up with the answers as to why politicians do what they do.
