Possible Iranian military move...in this hemisphere:
Urgent Agenda ^ | 12-09-10 | William Katz

BRINGS BACK MEMORIES, AND NOT GOOD ONES – AT 9:45 P.M. ET: Hudson New York (http://www.hudson-ny.org/1714/iran-missiles-in-venezuela) publishes a thorough article warning of a possible Iranian military move...in this hemisphere:

Iran is planning to place medium-range missiles on Venezuelan soil, based on western information sources, according to an article in the German daily, Die Welt, of November 25, 2010. According to the article, an agreement between the two countries was signed during the last visit of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to Tehran on October19, 2010. The previously undisclosed contract provides for the establishment of a jointly operated military base in Venezuela, and the joint development of ground-to-ground missiles.

At a moment when NATO members found an agreement, in the recent Lisbon summit (19-20 November 2010), to develop a Missile Defence capability to protect NATO's populations and territories in Europe against ballistic missile attacks from the East (namely, Iran), Iran's counter-move consists in establishing a strategic base in the South American continent - in the United States's soft underbelly.

According to Die Welt, Venezuela has agreed to allow Iran to establish a military base manned by Iranian missile officers, soldiers of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Venezuelan missile officers. In addition, Iran has given permission for the missiles to be used in case of an "emergency."

And...

It’ll take a few months to clean up a lot of the residual radiation in Venezuela of course, but Iran? I wouldn’t bother with it.

Now this scares me. We are falling apart at the seams from every corner of the globe. We look like complete bufoons. I really hope this new threat is taken with serious attention.

Maybe the new Congress can actually do its job and pass a Declaration of War to address this issue - since Zero is unlikely to lift a finger.

I recommend a cocktail mixer of B-1 Lancer and JSOW AGM-154..... That should take care of it nicely.

One will be specially reserved for Hugo’s residence.

“We look like complete bufoons.”

I have no interest in having radical Iranians on the same planet as me, but they probably just want the US military out of their neighbors’ territories (Iraq/Afghanistan) and want a bargaining chip to do it (ala Cuba/Turkey). Rather than “staring down” Kruschev, Kennedy simply agreed to remove our missiles from Turkey if he would remove their missiles from Cuba. If you see through the hype, Iran is actually in a precarious position of having to fight a conventional war on 2 fronts against US forces (think of the troop buildup in the Middle East prior to Desert Storm). The fact that we have a Muslim Democrat president must be all the more frightening, because he has all the leeway in the world to do what he wants without any criticism (at least from the US press; the world media apparently realized over the past year that he was just some Muslim thug from Chicago).

This was in the works 8 years ago and Bush didn't do diddly about Hugo either. Too busy blowing big bucks trying to look like a nice guy in Iraq.

Drivel.....

There is nothing to be cone about Chavez. He is.

The Venezuelan people must remove him.

Your view of the conqueror of Baghdad is misguided

Bush actually tried, and was right out of the gate to congratulate the Venezuelans in the middle of the night when they removed Hugo. But the very next day he backed down because of the howling of the leftwing press and the Dems and the lack of support from the (still Clintonista filled) State Dept personell in Latin America.

If he had stuck to his guns, things might be different today. That said, Bush did have other things on his plate, and he probably thought Hugo was such a buffoon that he wouldn’t last long once he got back into power. But never underestimate buffoons. Hitler was nutz, too, and of course Li’l Kim was a laugh a minute - but they were both vicious and deadly.

Obama, on the other hand, has actively encouraged Hugo Chavez, promoted him and made him the defacto leader of Latin America, and has stood by smiling as Hugo and Ahmadinejad had their bonding moments. But why should Obama mind? After all, they are his two best friends, coming together to attack his worst enemy...the US.
