COLUMBIA FALLS, MT - Demarie DeReu, a 16-year-old honor student at Columbia Falls High School, is facing expulsion after leaving her hunting rifle in her vehicle on school grounds.
DeReu, who is also a member of the Student Council and a varsity cheerleader, told Montana's News Station that she had no intention of breaking any rules or laws, or harming anyone.
She went hunting over the Thanksgiving holiday with her family and forgot to unpack the rifle; it remained unloaded in a case in the trunk of her car.
Upon hearing that a "contraband dog" was to be working the school parking lot, DeRue remembered her unloaded hunting rifle in the trunk of her car and promptly informed school officials.
A meeting is now set for Monday, December 13, at 6 p.m. where DeRue will face an expulsion hearing before the local school board.
The district has a "zero tolerance" policy about guns in schools.

Well, the idea is to not get caught, but be willing to take the consequences if you are. And the goal is to make sure they lose all power, whether you get caught or not.
Zero Tolerance is just code for Gun Control Nazis.

That is pretty much how I see it as well. I do see the modern US public school as poison to children and families. Little good comes of them.
Another one they do, is to arrest you while at home, on the couch watching TV for drunk driving because two hours ago someone at the golf clubhouse saw you drink and then drive home. I'm talking 50 year old men and women, not kids on this part.
Well, that expulsion will certainly deter the next Columbine from happening...
What’s the point? Either it’s an honest mistake and that’s the end of it—or she intended to kill fellow students. If it’s the latter, what does the threat of expulsion prevent?
I despise all these unwarranted (in all meanings of the word) searches being conducted against Americans at school and work.
We used to have gun racks with rifles in them in our HS parking lot and nobody ever got shot or even threatened. I had a beautiful Old Timer knife with a nearly 4-inch locking blade that I wore in a leather case on my belt every day to school. Teachers would even borrow it sometimes.
We have failed to raise several generations correctly.
Things were so normal for ordinary proud American kids.
My high school (Alabama) JROTC rifle range was in the basement under the girls gym.
Sounds like Montana has been overrun by Minnestoopidans. Yes, I live in Minnestoopid.
Hitting a shoe on the ground to knock off the mud is considered out of control violence here. Full scale wussification has been completed. And now we have the psycho for gooberner.
That's a life lesson that she will likely learn. No matter how this comes out, she will probably go through the rest of her life with a healthy dose of cynicism and contempt for "authorities."
Just take a look at who's running the schools...
More liberal insanity!

Where I grew up, less than two dozen miles from the Los Angeles city hall, we had a target range in town that even some of my classmates in grade school used.
I think you’ll find that healthy cynicism and contempt for corrupt, incompetent authorities pretty well defined the American revolutionaries.
The words ‘Zero Tolerance’ tells you exactly who these people are. No more expanation is needed.
This is the punishment of the innocent on the alter of "Political Correctness". Shades of Kafka in the inexorable punishment of the guiltless by the workings of the bureaucracy.
Its time for parents to have zero tolerance for this PC bullshit.
They are our children your salaries are paid by us you school buildings are built with our money. You work for us.
Stop this nonsense or we will take steps to git rid of you.
The Tea Party movement ought to start getting involved in government at the local level and address problems such as this.
The students should all walk out in protest. Someone needs to force commonsense on those imbeciles.
