COLUMBIA FALLS, MT - Demarie DeReu, a 16-year-old honor student at Columbia Falls High School, is facing expulsion after leaving her hunting rifle in her vehicle on school grounds.
DeReu, who is also a member of the Student Council and a varsity cheerleader, told Montana's News Station that she had no intention of breaking any rules or laws, or harming anyone.
She went hunting over the Thanksgiving holiday with her family and forgot to unpack the rifle; it remained unloaded in a case in the trunk of her car.
Upon hearing that a "contraband dog" was to be working the school parking lot, DeRue remembered her unloaded hunting rifle in the trunk of her car and promptly informed school officials.
A meeting is now set for Monday, December 13, at 6 p.m. where DeRue will face an expulsion hearing before the local school board.
The district has a "zero tolerance" policy about guns in schools.

Why is there such a lack of common sense among those who run our schools?
I suggest everyone in Montana, get out as fast as possible.
she should let the idiots kick her out....the school loses a great student.....hopefully there is a private HS she can finish up in or start college early....
Public government schools are for losers.
Lack of common sense is the only subject taught in government schools.
This young woman has learned the only lesson that public school can teach her, that she should have been home-schooled or privately schooled.
One would expect such an outrage in Berkeley, West Hollywood, or Greenwich Village, not Montana. However, such incidents are occurring in urban as well as rural schools, and in "red" as well as "blue" states.

There is the problem. She trusted them. They keep proving to be the enemy. It is amazing how people just don’t get it. You NEVER cooperate with the cops beyond what you are required.
If they come to your door, even if you KNOW you are innocent of anything, and politely ask to look around, ALWAYS require a search warrant. Politely, of course.
People do not grasp that the job of the cops is LITERALLY to gain any evidence against you, whoever you are. Their job is to root out and prosecute crime. If this girl had not said anything and the dog found the gun, her position would be no worse than it is now, and she fell for the ol’ “just cooperate and everything will be ok here. Shucks, we’re all just regular folks here” line the police give.
The police are not bad people. They are just the front line to a bad system. It is not personal to them, no matter how they make it sound that way. Don’t let it be personal to you. They mean business. That is why they wear guns.

Back when dinosaurs were roaming the earth, I taught high school in a small Wyoming town. Well over half of the student’s vehicles (always Ford pick ups) had gun racks mounted to the rear window with rifles in them. Way of life in the West........sadly, it’s passing.
And we had a gun club at my high school in Southern California.
She then files sexual assault charges against anyone who played hands in the pants. That's a felony and they have to register as sex offenders. She bags about a dozen during any school year. She charges at least 50. The wealthier families pay their way out, some as much as $30,000 in attorney fees.
Government school is institutionalized child abuse. Her parents should homeschool her. She wouldn’t be a “cheerleader”, but she would get a much better education.

I firmly believe it is coming back, with a vengeance, very soon. No, I’m not joking.
As more and more of this gets exposed for the lunacy it is, people start acting out. Look at all the open carry stuff going on around the country. I am a bit concerned that this country is in a cultural war that has ramped up to the point that it may get hot. And if it does, we all know which side will “win”. I use quotes, because in reality, nobody will win.
Nobody has burned her house down or her car out? What a bunch of sheep. If someone came after my son as you just described, it would be, literally, me against them, badge or no badge. It is pure self defense.
Montana has been overrun with pussies and idiots. Where did these fools migrate from originally? Surely these decisions are not from the stock that settled the cattle areas of Montana?
It has happened. It has not worked out very well for the parents.
