The gun recovered from a man who commited suicide at a Hollywood apartment appears to be the same one that killed veteran Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen, according to a law enforcement source.

The Beverly Hills Police Department has called 3 p.m. news conference to discuss the case, though no details were provided.

Is the press conference going to be about the gun or the murderer?

Beverly Hills publicist murdered by man who commits suicide with the murder weapon. Convenient.

Nikki Finke reported last week that the police had a "fairly good idea" who ordered the hit. It's also interesting to underscore how long forensic testing - like ballistics - actually takes, contrary to what you see on TV.

It's going to be interesting why someone would want marginally wealthy ($6M net worth), older woman dead - personal or business?

Isn’t that convenient.

It would seem that the designated patsy has been eliminated.

Strange. I have heard it reported the gun was NOT likely a match.

Gun likely not linked to Hollywood publicist death

My head is starting to spin. The other day, on the local LA news, the newsreader announced that the gun did not match. I’m not disputing either, but its ridiculous how the “facts” flip-flop.

So the man who committed suicide was a hired hitman?

Facts are facts. What you heard earlier was speculation based on incomplete evidence.

No, facts don't change ~ but there are always new facts.

"So the man who committed suicide was a hired hitman? "

Again, don't believe everything you see on tv. "Hitmen" are usually tweakers looking for their next fix. The suave, debonair, master-of-disguise and kung-fu ninjas only live in the minds of Hollywood screenwriters.

Most murders for higher are done for a few thousand dollars, which makes it even more pathetic, I suppose.

Why am I suddenly thinking of Vince Foster?

I wonder, was the gun (and body) suspiciously clean?

Yes, I agree with your observation-he was a hired killer.

Oh, I'm sorry. I read your post as if it was sarcastic, or mocking. My mistake.

Assuming the suicide guy was also the killer, he was a known lowlife/criminal, but not likely to have known the victim. The pertinent questions are:

What did this woman victim get involved in that required her death? Celebrity biz people rarely transgress in a way that requires killing by a professional.

Who gave the order for the hit?

Best guess for now? Drugs.

"Best guess for now? Drugs."

This is what Nikke Finke is reporting from last week some information passed to her by Allison Hope Weiner...

UPDATE: Police Have "Fairly Good Idea" Who Ordered Ronni Chasen's Hollywood Hit

A police source close to the investigation into the murder of Ronni Chasen says that police have a fairly good idea as to who employed a Hollywood hit man to shoot the longtime publicist. Although the alleged hit man killed himself last night before police could take him into custody, authorities are still making progress in their investigation of Chasen's murder. Several sources confirm that police have a working theory that Chasen's murder was related to a business deal gone bad.

Finke is known for her reliable reporting on all things Hollywood. The other woman, Weiner, is a well-known Hollywood crime reporter, whose most famous work revolves around the Anthony Pellicano case. I think the she's well-respected as well, but I am not positive, FWIW.
