Anyone that goes to the Arizona Memorial @ Pearl simply MUST walk across the parking lot and also tour the USS Bowfin submarine and museum.......highly under-publicized, but well worth the extra hour or so. I'll second that...

Still waiting for the apology from our now esteemed friends - guess that will never happen. Maybe not as a nation, but you should see all the wreaths and other 'memorials' left in the USS Arizona Memorial by Japanese citizens. It's a sobering sight.
This wreath was placed by visiting Japanese school-children. There were others out of the frame of this pic, as well as flowers and wreaths that had been tossed into the water around the Memorial.

Thanks Pa-Paw for all you did that day and throughout the war...What we see these days in Black and White...You saw it there in Color...
I know Granny just arrived, and hopefully you two are cutting a rug like you used too, smile on us and give us strength to keep on with the fight...
I hope I will always be worthy of yours and other sacrifices during that challenging time in your lives...

On September 1, 1923, Japan suffered a devastating earthquake that killed 143,000 people. In a matter of hours the United States sent a convoy of ships with medical supplies and more than ten million dollars in aid. The Emperor sent a famous five word cablegram to the White House: "America, we will never forget." Eighteen years later, on December 7, 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, killing 2800 Americans. Japan forgot.....we will not.
