WH wants transfer authority on appropriations?
Hot Air ^ | 12/3/10 | Ed Morrissey

Congress passed another continuing resolution yesterday that will keep the government in operation for another two weeks, allowing the White House to keep negotiating for a budget plan while Democrats remain in charge in the House. That, however, is really a secondary story. Politico reports on a quiet development that could throw a wrench into the works even with Democrats in charge — and which would, if implemented, severely distort the checks and balances on power in Washington (emphasis mine):

A two-week stopgap spending bill cleared Congress Thursday night, averting a threatened shutdown Friday and buying time for the White House to try to salvage some year-end agreement after the collapse of the budget process. The action came as the administration sent to the Capitol more than 50 funding adjustments it wants considered as part of what would be a stripped-down appropriations package for the remainder of the 2011 fiscal year ending Sept. 30. Many agencies would be left frozen at their current spending levels, but the documents indicate the White House is seeking more than $11.4 billion in new spending above 2010, chiefly for foreign aid and defense accounts as well as education initiatives and housing assistance for low-income tenants. The administration also wants to a remarkably open-ended authority to transfer funds between accounts — a power that is sure to be resisted by the Appropriations Committee leadership.

This is what’s known as “burying the lead” in journalism.

Ugh. You have no idea how horrible this is for active duty military. You can't do anything at all because funds are just not available so if you do want to do something you have to go through even MORE bureaucracy. It is just terrible to get anything done seriously. I certainly hope that you guys are not applauding this....I have not read any comments yet.

The democrat leftists and their constituents will NOT EVER cooperate with any attempt to roll back government, no matter how legal such attempts are.

I hope the GOP and the American people are preparing themselves to deal with the results.

No more Omnibus Spending Bills. Fund one Department at a time.

Eliminate Agencies by simply refusing to fund them

this is hugh and series. open-ended transfer authority gives Obama carte blanche to do whatever he pleases while the Rat Senate prevents ANY recission until the next budget year. This absolutely must be opposed.

Am I right in thinking that if this passes it would mean that Republicans wouldn’t be able to defund Obamacare (and whatever other garbage like the DREAM act that gets passed)

Congress is FINALLY discovering how bad an idea it was to give the president the power to appoint the heads of all those agencies they created.

When will ENOUGH be ENOUGH??

Yesterday it was this out of the FED:

“The American people became so infuriated about the bailouts and stimulus packages passed by Congress, but it turns out that they were nothing compared to these Federal Reserve bailouts.

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders is one of the members of Congress that is now expressing extreme outrage about what the Federal Reserve has done....

“The $700 billion Wall Street bailout turned out to be pocket change compared to trillions and trillions of dollars in near zero interest loans and other financial arrangements that the Federal Reserve doled out to every major financial institution.”

In fact, Senator Sanders was so disgusted by how much of the money went overseas that he was led to make the following remark....

“Has the Federal Reserve become the central bank of the world? I think that is a question that needs to be examined.”

So...when will enough be enough?

The world wonders.

Congress can fix the FED at ANY time.

They can take back the power they gave them and give the American people sound money. Congress abdicated this authority in 1913. As horrible as our current CONgress is, breaking away from the FED is the FIRST step.

What part of "unnecessary spending" do these morons NOT undertand?

Equating supplying our fighting troops with generational career idle "low income tenants" is just despicable beyond words.

I suppose that the troops worldwide can just stop working and go on local welfare...
