Cable sent in 2006 indicates that the Irish government has been making it increasingly difficult for American weapons shipments to Israel to pass through its airport.
The Irish government has acted to limit transfers of American weapons to Israel and Iraq through Shannon Airport in the wake of public outrage after the Second Lebanon War, an American diplomatic cable published by WikiLeaks reveals.

What, that’s the only airport they can use? Ever heard of loading them up on a ship and transporting them that way?

Good point. That brings up a couple of even more interesting questions in my mind: Why was Shannon Airport used for these weapons shipments in the first place, and what was Ireland getting for their role in this?
There has got to be more to this story. There is no problem with flying straight from the USA to the UK.

Odd. The usual way to handle these things is to publically agree with the whipped up outrage, obviously limit the arms exports through the airport, and arrange for them to be secrectly shipped “under the radar” from somewhere else...
Its not your grandfathers Ireland either, or your great-grandfathers, or your great-great-grandfathers, or indeed any Ireland you can ever think of.
There is more to this story. Britain is an ally and Ireland isn’t. Simple as that.
This is the truth. I couldn't believe the hatred and seemingly automatic anti-US vitriol I heard just in casual conversation in Ireland when I made a trip there a few years ago (post 9/11).
Of course, in all fairness, I will say I've heard it from Germans, French, Brits, Italians and Spaniards, too. Europeans simply hate us and side with anyone who is an enemy of the US. (That's why they like Obama, who is an enemy of the US!)
How they inflicted the Kennedys on us should be considered an act of war.
