Smithsonian Christmas-Season Exhibit Features Ant-Covered Jesus, Naked Brothers Kissing, Genitalia, and Ellen DeGeneres Grabbing Her Breasts WARNING: This story contains graphic photographs of items on display in an exhibit at the Smithsonian Institutions National Portrait Gallery. Monday, November 29, 2010 By Penny Starr
(CNSNews.com) -- The federally funded National Portrait Gallery, one of the museums of the Smithsonian Institution, is currently showing an exhibition that features images of an ant-covered Jesus, male genitals, naked brothers kissing, men in chains, Ellen DeGeneres grabbing her breasts, and a painting the Smithsonian itself describes in the show's catalog as "homoerotic."
The exhibit, Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture, opened on Oct. 30 and will run throughout the Christmas Season, closing on Feb. 13.
This is an exhibition that displays masterpieces of American portraiture and we wanted to illustrate how questions of biography and identity went into the making of images that are canonical, David C. Ward, a National Portrait Gallery (NGP) historian who is also co-curator of the exhibit, told CNSNews.com.
e-brief
A plaque fixed to the wall at the entrance to the exhibit says that the National Portrait Gallery is committed to showing how a major theme in American history has been the struggle for justice so that people and groups can claim their full inheritance in Americas promise of equality, inclusion, and social dignity. As Americas museum of national biography, the NPG is also vitally interested in the art of portrayal and how portraiture reflects our ideas about ourselves and others.

Satan is hard at work again.
God must be so proud that His sent His only begotten Son to rescue such kooks
Sounds like a TSA screening.
No naked muhamad?
2. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”
23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”
24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.
25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”
27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”

Why do taxpayers pay for this crap?
I guess they’ll do an ant-covered Mohammed next time.
Don’t you love seeing taxpayer money used by pissy flaming queers to do “provocative” exhibits during Christian holidays?
Certainly a puke factor of 10, and a mental image that I'll have to scrub out of my eyes with bleach.
The whole display is disgusting, but in the interest of "rights", I'll exercise mine not to look.
I'm a little pissed that my tax money goes to support this crap, however.
Were it not for taxpayer subsidies, that Mapplethorpe faggot would not even have a venue to display his pornography.
The National Endowment for Arts is a huge taxpayer ripoff.
Has obama proposed a reduction in pay for this crap?
This is the NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY
It is such a beautiful place full of so many treasures. Looks like the trash is pilling up though.
Too bad, I had planned a holiday visit, their gift shop is/was wonderful
Hopefully the Republican majority House will cut off all funds for this and other pervert and anti-God programs. Then, when we get a conservative President that has morals and common sense and upholds the U.S. Constitution as well as a majority in the Senate in 2012 or earlier we will start the road back to sanity and "One Nation Under God".
In a world where drawing a stick-figure Muhammad gets death threats, artists continue to proclaim their cowardice for all to see.
I really doubt the GOP will cut off funds for the Smithsonian.
That’s creative stuff dude. Especially 5. Put some blond highlights in your hair & you might get away with calling that art. It’s, you know, a statement.
Thank you. We need to continue to fight back.
