After WikiLeaks' unauthorized release of a quarter of a million State Department documents Sunday, Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) called for the Swedish website to be designated a "foreign terrorist organization" and its founder Julian Assange to be charged as a spy.

"WikiLeaks presents a clear and present danger to the national security of the United States," he wrote Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

"I strongly urge you to work within the administration to use every offensive capability of the U.S. government to prevent further damaging releases by WikiLeaks," said King in the letter he made public Sunday.

>>So are we going to sanction Sweden or Britain for hosting him?<<

Annex Sweden and just tell Britain we won’t allow any USA citizens to attend the Royal Wedding.

The latter will be more devastating than a nuke to the British.

Clearly they don’t. They could shut down servers. They could take responsibility. They could ferret out the many traitors. To me? Too much info came from various sources. It was/ is an issue of information access and control. Due to the differences, breadth and depth I believe there is a larger conspiracy and responsibility flows through Secretary of State and right into the White House.

The WickedGate is open!

How can he stop a server from another country?

He doesn't...you get the other guy to do it for you. Anybody can send a team of assassins to hunt someone down in the dark of night and kill them. For one country to "compell" another country to act solely in the former country's interest? Now that's power. Inefficient and chaotic as it may seem to some of us, especially military types, it's a necessary component of politics and power.

ASSange can’t release anything that hasn’t been given to him by traitors.
PFC Bradley Manning should be hung for treason, and to set an example.

sadly DHS only cares about if the new Kanye West Album or Harry Potter album gets pirated but if its stuff from Wikileaks they let it go through.

I think either of those won’t work.

The black hats can take down just about any server anywhere.

Servers are easy. But what if (or when) this archive gets onto the BitTorrent? There are no servers; individual computers (tens of thousands of them) hold parts of the data, and whacking them one by one - even if possible - is not going to do anything. The data is not copyrighted, so foreigners can have it and their countries can't do anything about that.

This particular release is history. It has happened already. But future releases can be prevented by arresting the current crop of "journalists" and imprisoning them for ... instigating international conflicts. Because that's what they really do. I'm sure the old Saddam's cell is available for Mr. Assange.

Wikileaks doesn’t have a centralized network. Its probably run on file sharing servers. Good luck with closing them all down.

Probably not — I suggest an alternative: an Interpol arrest warrant and for once the USA defy anyone to say nay.

Of course with this “screw our friends and kowtow to out enemies” administration that ain’t gonna happen.

The heatup in the Korean border is a sign of the disdain the world has for this poseur manchild dilettante the Americans bought off on.

You think he has the stones to take out this obvious spy?

Could it all be a setup to institute draconian new laws concerning the internet? Potboiler books have sold on less.

I like your idea. Just issue an arrest warrant and let Interpol handle the rest. When he is entering a airport, he will already be on the list. With the servers, there is not much you can do about that. If you shut one down, it will pop up in another place.

In the Internet age, you can’t close any leak.

You have to take out the leaker.

That takes balls, something no one in this administration has (except against the American public).

Yeah, they begged WL not to release the files. That’s how manly this Administration is in dealing with our enemies. Speak softly and carry no stick.

Remind Sweden that the only reason Europe gets to play liberal utopia games is because the USA is the world's policeman.

Of course, this President has no influence on the world stage - his strongly worded letters fall on deaf ears.

Just make it known that the Wikileaks server is also hosting a torrent for the latest Harry Potter movie. It will be shut down in a matter of hours.

Yep, sad but true.

The documents were given to The New York Times, Der Spiegel, and The Guardian, and will be made public on the WikiLeaks website.

None are marked "top secret".

11,000 were classified as "secret".

9,000 were State Department docs, for internal use only and not to be shared with any foreign government.

4,000 were both "secret", and not to be shared with a foreign government.

Many include the names of confidential diplomatic sources, foreign lawmakers, military officers and reporters, and some included messages to protect the identities of the parties named.
