Canadian funnyman and actor Leslie Nielsen has passed away in hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
The star of comedy hits such as "Airplane" and the "Naked Gun" series dies of complications from pneumonia, according to his nephew Doug Nielsen, who lives in Richmond
Doug Nielsen told CJOB that the actor passed away at a hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The Canadian actor had been hospitalized for nearly two weeks as a result of pneumonia.
"Just in this last 48 hours, the infection has gotten too much and today at 5.30, with his friends and his wife by his side, he just fell asleep and passed away," Doug told the radio station.
oh wow...what a loss. terrifically funny guy. just didn’t imagine him being that old, but stands to reason, he’s been on tv and in movies since I was a kid, and I ain’t no spring chicken. RIP Leslie, God Bless.
Very Sad about hearing this news,RIP and thanks for the laughs.......
He just missed out on seeing action in WWII, he joined the RCAF in 1944, but the war ended before he would have been deployed overseas.
You could bet me 5 figures and make me watch Airplane without laughing, and I'd lose every time.
Strangely, I was quoting him in the car yesterday as we passed the Good Year blimp at rest. Priscilla Presley: "My husband was killed on New Year's Day at the Rose Bowl game in a terrible blimp accident." Leslie Neilson: "Good Year?" Priscilla: (sobbing) "The worst!"
The absolute best straight man comedian in history.
RIP, Leslie Nielson. I miss you already. Thanks for your body of work. I am sorry we lost you.
Men With Brooms. A funny movie. I will miss Leslie. RIP and thanks for so many laughs and entertainment.
Omgosh I got it wrong in my quote! But what great lines either way!!
Always enjoyed his work. RIP.
Unlike most actors, he got lucky in his old age achieving greatness in comedy after years of mediocrity in mediocre drama. He’ll be remembered for the comedy, you can be sure.
ping
RIP to one of funnier actors of all time.
Long career. I first came across him in the old TV series The Bold Ones. He played a serious cop in that one.
Agreed. It still ranks high among Sci-Fi films.
RIP, Lt. Frank Drebbin.
Surviving the last 30 or so years would have been damn-near impossible without having that guy around.
Forbiden Planet was not mediocre. It is one of the greatest pioneering sci-fi movies of the 50s. I am watching it tonight in memorium. I watch the Naked Gun and Airplane! movies all the time, but I haven't seen that one in decades.
Since I am posting, one of my favorite lines... "Nurse, get this man some drugs, quick! Can't you see he's in pain?"
Leslie Nielsen RIP sad news ping.
Stopping calling me Shirley.
Best scene was when he wipes off Gorby’s birthmark, “I knew it!!!”
