TSA pat-downs prove it - Americans are whiners
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | November 23, 2010 | Debra J. Saunders

The latest controversy over Transportation Security Administration body scans and enhanced body pat-downs leaves no doubt: America truly is a nation of whiners.

A CBS News poll found that 81 percent of Americans support full-body airport scanning. That reasonable view is being drowned out by elements on the left and the right who love nothing better than to proclaim that they are victims.

I’m sorry, that wasn’t really aimed at you. I am just so tired of all of the people who keep telling me how I am going to be at fault when a terrorist kills a plane load of people since I don’t think the TSA’s current plan is not what they should be doing. And I don’t even fly. But my family and loved ones do. I don’t want them getting killed. But, not only do I think these are over intrusive, I don’t think they make us safer.

"About 42,000 people are killed in auto accidents every year...much more than in terrorist attacks...why aren’t they checking out car drivers???"

Because there's a lot of money to be made from those drivers.  More so than people who fly and the entire airline business.

I should have been more specific in my original post. See post 11.

The CBS poll contradicts what Rasmussen found, which is that 61 percent of Americans like neither the scanners or the pat downs. This article and the CBS poll are total lies.

Wonder what she would say if this was happening under Bush?

The liberal media wouyld be having a royal coniption fit if Bush had instituted this

Look how they went after him over the GOOD THINGS he used the Patriot Act for? Imagine if he had instituted full body searches?

AND profiling is so much worse than grabbing your balls so we cant’t do any of that....

The wikipedia article you link to offers very little evidence one way or another. Case in point: it mentions her support of “conservative advocacy groups” but doesn’t name any of them.

From the brief description of her in that article it seems she might be a good conservative and she might also be a David Brooks “token conservative” (as she even calls herself).

And anyway, none of that matters on the question of what she wrote here regarding the TSA.

First, she blithely accepts a CNN “poll” which “proves” that the vast majority of Americans support the new searches and second, she demonstrates a clear lack of understanding of the constitutional issues involved.

So she might be a conservative and she might not be... but she hasn’t thought this one through.

As for her use of the term “whiners”... I suggest she worry more about the meaning of the term “sheeple” and whether or not she’s one of them.

“My point was that people would see that this article was from the SF Chronicle and would label her a goofy leftist.”

Well, if the shoe fits. (or in this case the op-ed fits)

I have heard the TSA goons state that flying is not a right, it is a privilege, Well, driving an automobile on a public highway is also a privilege, not a right. Yet the USSC has ruled that officers who have legitimately stopped motorists, must have consent or reasonable suspicion to perform a protective frisk. This could get interesting once the lawsuits start flying.

Yep, she now belongs on the “List of Boobs”. You wouldn’t expect it in a SF rag (sarc).

The constitution is clear and concise - the pat-downs are in direct violation of the fourth amendment. Period. She wants to call it whining? How about a flippin’ cavity search for all female flyers. In front of all other passengers? Is that enough to make her whine?

Stupid idiot doesn’t understand the concept of “reasonable suspicion” and “probable cause”.

It’s as if large number of people in this country have suddenly gone insane. It’s like one of those crazy horror flicks where only a handful of people are sane and everyone else has been taken over by aliens, even tho they look normal. I get up every morning thinking....surely everyone has woken up today and life is going to get back to normal, but no, there is just more insanity heaped on the already overflowing plate that was there the day before.

This is all so simple and can be reduced easily to _value_. Where do we get the most bang out of our taxpayer buck? Is it improving car safety standards or patting down every granny about to get on a plane. I’d like to maximize the results of our dollars where we do the most good for a reasonable price. The seatbelt argument works here, as mandating seatbelts saves far many more lives and costs far less than these lat downs. We need to ask ourselves what we are trying to accomplish and what we are willing to pay. I want value at of my government confiscated dollars at a minimum. The TSA and the laws and or processes around this don’t seem focused on that equation.
