The latest controversy over Transportation Security Administration body scans and enhanced body pat-downs leaves no doubt: America truly is a nation of whiners.
A CBS News poll found that 81 percent of Americans support full-body airport scanning. That reasonable view is being drowned out by elements on the left and the right who love nothing better than to proclaim that they are victims.

That doesn’t mean that she isn’t a complete fool.
So what’s your point?
So it’s ok if a conservative thinks we should give up our 4th amendment rights?
Not buying it. Left of right.
Left OR right.
And the current debate is merely a continuation of the one that was shouted down in 2001 when the Bush administration decided they liked big government and gave birth to this evil monstrosity, the HSA.
Agreed.
About 42,000 people are killed in auto accidents every year...much more than in terrorist attacks...why aren’t they checking out car drivers??? Heck, terrorists drive cars, too! With BOMBS in them....
She’s totally nuts.
Might as well say women are whiners if they complain about being raped.
I don’t agree with Saunders here.
My point was that people would see that this article was from the SF Chronicle and would label her a goofy leftist.
So? Do you know anyone who is right 100% of the time? I’m so sick of hearing how this is for our own good. I have a good idea. All the people who think the naked scanners and pat downs are a great idea can get scanned and patted down in grandma and all the 3 year old’s stead.
See post 11.
And a conservative should know that giving up one's rights is always wrong. Debra gets no praise from me.
TSA pat-downs prove it - Americans have morals about who and when and how others shall be permitted to see and touch their own bodies.
YAHOOOOOOOOOOO!
Be quiet, Debra. We aren’t whiners. You have just been demoralized and hardened to having strangers see you naked and allow them to touch your private parts. Turning our hearts of flesh into stone is what this is all about. PERIOD.
I agree! That’s a wonderful suggestion. Anyone who thinks that we should treat every traveler, from my mother to my toddler, as an equal threat, should volunteer for the Full Monty from the TSA. Let people who know that terrorists are young Moslem men just walk on the plane ... unless they happen to be young Moslem men.
it is nothing less than sheer torture of the English language to suggest that a careful exploration of the outer surfaces of a person's clothing all over his or her body in an attempt to find weapons is not a "search." Moreover, it is simply fantastic to urge that such a procedure performed in public by a policeman while the citizen stands helpless, perhaps facing a wall with his hands raised, is a "petty indignity."
And this is all about an external, not even an internal search. I would rather have hoped that my 4th ammendment rights were recognized not just by renown liberals, but by constitutional conservatives. Alas!
Good grief. Why should be submit to these rules when their only purpose is the avoid confrontation with the Muslims. It is like punishing a whole class because of the misbehavior of the few.

I have never consider a defence of the US Constitution and the peoples rights as being whining.
That an American would feel that way is a crying shame.
