George H.W. Bush: Romney’s my favorite in 2012

Short of a crown physically being placed on Mitt’s head, this is as close as we’re likely to get to an official coronation of him as the establishment choice in the primaries. I was giggling while watching it, trying to imagine his reaction as the most RINO-y president of modern times gives him a very public thumbs up, but actually this shouldn’t hurt much. The base is already lost to him thanks to RomneyCare, so the best he can hope for now is to consolidate his position among centrists/anti-Palinists. And the Bushes did him a major solid on that front: Not only do they both talk him up, but when pressed on other candidates they like, they mentioned only Pawlenty, Haley Barbour, and Bobby Jindal (who almost certainly isn’t running). The omission of Mitch Daniels, a potential genuine threat to Romney, is conspicuous given Daniels’s service in Dubya’s administration. I wonder if that was mere absent-mindedness or a deliberate snub. Ah well. No mystery, though, as to why they failed to mention Palin; Barbara’s contempt for her, in particular, is obvious.

Incidentally, now that we’ve got the Bushes sniping at her and Karl Rove criticizing her show and her fans, does that make this hotly disputed Daily News piece from earlier this month any more credible? Palin supporters bristled at the idea that Dubya might have been privately critical of her, but I’m not sure why. Tea partiers are forever reminding us that the movement is as much a reaction to Bush 43 as it is to Obama; if the man behind TARP and years of ballooning deficits doesn’t think much of Palin, that only proves her conservative cred, no?

It has been obvious for some time now that the establishment is going to try to make Romney the GOP nominee.

*****************************

He was last time. Hannity was like a puppy making puddles he was so happy to fawn over Romney.

If you had said you saw no difference between Romney and the “Read my lips, no new taxes” George Bush (Sr.), I would totally agree with you.

Neither one of them knows how to keep a promise. They are both elitist lib RINOs. George (Jr.) is marginally better than dear old dad.

Certainly a thought except that W’s Mrs openly came out against Palin.

Jeb’s not running.
A week or so ago I heard W say people needed to take Jeb at his word.

Probably the bushes think that Romney will be soft on the border.

The Bush’s are soft on the border because they have family on both sides of the border. They’re border people. They are who they are. But the USA can’t survive with their likes at the helm.

Thanks for correcting me. Sometimes I read too fast for good comprehension. Happy GHWB was president instead of Dukakis, sorry he was so bad that Bill Clinton became president. Happy GHWB is now a private citizen.

How is New Hampshire in anyway reflective of the GOP base, though? It’s an open primary.

Medicare Part D, Romneycare...

The only real difference I see between Romney and GW is abortion.

And I don’t see abortion being much of an issue next election.

The next presidential election will revolve around fiscal issues and trying to cage the government beast.

I’m just speaking the truth about what the left will do to Romney. Besides hitting him with the part about his socialist healthcare in Massachusetts; they’ll play over and over and over again his videotaped statements about his support of abortion (or the cop-out “choice”) way back when.
Furthermore, some of the practices of Mormons are unusual and generally unknown to the average person, like it or not. For the most part, of course, Mormons are known as generally good citizens, but do you doubt that if Sarah Palin & Todd had worn special underwear for religious reasons, it would have been a skit on SNL? Of course, it would because the libs are very irreverant if it furthers their cause. - Call me a bigot if you like, but I think Romney will be pushed by Rove & crowd, and ANYTHING the left can use against him will be ammunition. - Of course, they will do the same to any Republican candidate. Not fair? Libs ain’t fair; that’s just the truth. - I don’t KNOW that any Republican can win, because there’s a lot I don’t know. I didn’t think the Kenyan could possibly be elected, but he was - now the American people are having to repent at leisure because they think the media is always right. They let the media ram home the point that, “It’s all BUSH’s fault!”

Your comment: “The Bush’s are soft on the border because they have family on both sides of the border. They’re border people. They are who they are. But the USA can’t survive with their likes at the helm.”

1. Pres G W Bush added more than 1800 new Border Agents, and the beginning of the physical fence, plus electronic eyes, and I think that was quite a lot considering he had to deal with 9/11, Afghanistan, the Iraq War, Katrina and 7-8 more natural disasters including the CA fires.

2. Since 9/11 the Bush years protected us from another terrorist attack, and that’s more than the buzzheads we have now. In fact several hundred terrorist plans were thwarted, and many in our own country.

Bush also pardoned the two agents who were arrested, and maybe you think he could have done more, imho, it isn’t likely he could have done more, as he had so many other items to handle, as I mentioned. Bureacracy moves slowly, and a good reason to have less of it.

3. Yes, they have family in Mexico, however many Mexicans who came here legally have family in Mexico too, and want illegals to follow the legal pathway to enter and citizenship.

4. Homeland Security is one of the greatest concepts during Bush admin, however, it is not being used by this Administration properly, The many agencies were protective of their intelligence, and all the facts were NOT being shared with other agencies hoping to solve the case themselves, and a lot of crime, intelligence or information could have solved many operations faster by finding out what others knew. It is the real reason that 9/11 got past the intel agencies, because had they SHARED their intel, then it would not have happened. That was discussed. A central place to place that info was necessary.

The huge mistake in the creation of Homeland Security was adding FEMA to it, it should have been kept as seperate agency. Natural Disasters and Crime/Terrorism really do not belong under the same umbrella, it’s a boondoggle.

5. Bush Bashing is NOT right, because if Gore had won the election we would all be speaking chinese, and paying global warming taxes! AS for 9/11 he would have surrendered the whole country to Al Queda, as it might have interfered with his partying.

6. Barbara Bush is 85 years old, and old people say all kinds of things that aren’t kosher. Who knows how her memory is at that age, because my mother is embarrassing at times...but she has Alzheimers too so I ignore it. It was rude, but nothing more than saying Palin should stay in AK, and that meant not running for President, and she is entitled to her opinion....she also said Palin was attractive too.

7. I don’t think any President other than Harry Truman went through the stress, mocking and hell on earth from the left like Bush did, and he did it with grace. Sure he was tired the last two years and made some mistakes, as all Presidents do.
Then a lame duck with Stretch Pelosi and the putrids who came into power in 2006, then the 2008 crash including bailouts, and the election from hell with Zero, who is still blaming Bush for his own defects at not solving our problems.

President G W Bush did a great job of protecting this nation from terrorism, and I won’t let anyone say we didn’t need him, because we did!
