Alaska candidate sues over Senate election results

ANCHORAGE (Reuters) - Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller filed suit in Alaska state court Monday challenging the election victory of incumbent Senator Lisa Murkowski and effectively halting certification of results.

Miller’s 21-page lawsuit closely tracks an earlier complaint filed in federal court challenging write-in votes for Murkowski in the Nov. 2 election.

A member of one of the state’s most powerful political families and a senator since 2002, Republican Murkowski had to campaign to get voters to write her name on the ballot after Miller, backed by the Tea Party movement and former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, defeated her in Alaska’s Republican primary in August.

Miller, who stunned experts by beating Murkowski, claims that elections officials violated state law by interpreting write-in ballots as votes for Murkowski despite spelling and handwriting mistakes.

Murkowski’s camp swiftly issued a written statement saying she would file a challenge of her own.

That’s what I say. Don’t let these loud mouth bullies fraudulently take the election.

Only problem we got is the Empire IS striking Back - witness Rove, George Will, Barbara Bush, just all of the fencers - by fencers I mean the classic definition of those who sell stolen goods.

Our work is so cut out for us. Thank God we have most of the State leges in our court.

No (BLEEPIN) way!!! Just fegedaboudit!!! That’s the typical countryclub, good sport, it was just a good natured contest Republican response. Republicans should be firebreathin Americans filled with fight to the finish for the rule of law and have nothing to do with “throwin in da towell!!!”

I can picture in my head Miller saying all this. I love this guy, and if Alaska don’t want him, he can come take Lugar’s spot here in Indiana.

Amen to that. Lugar is proving himself to be more a liberal everyday. Isn't he now going to vote against the earmark ban?

"Senator Jim DeMint, the South Carolina Republican and Tea Party leader, is seeking donations through his Senate Conservatives Fund. DeMint’s website reported it has raised $152,200 to date for the “Joe Miller Recount Fund.”

My $50 in there....what say you all to bump the fund...quarter mill first goal.

Miller should challenge not just the 8,159 he already has for spelling and handwriting mistakes, but the entire write-in vote procedure.

On what grounds?

democrats steal elections....if she has the votes, she has the votes.

if she didnt she didnt.

if a hand written ballot reads Murkowski, Merkowski, or Murcowski, it was for the RINO.

the majority obviously screwed up as the majority did with zer0 in 2008. they screwed up and we have one more RINO to deal with in the Senate.

at least she will caucus with the Republicans if that is any comfort (I suppose on some issues it will and some not).

if blame needs to be attacthed you might want to look at the RNC and Steele, who needs to GO.

Give a bear the fish he will never leave your campsite.

We will not give Lisa Murkowski her “fish”.

Joe is fighting to build a cleaner Alaska, and the old sourdough political establishment doesn’t want any of that, they remember when Sarah Palin went hunting for corruption.

And she bagged her limit...and then some.

They don’t want Miller getting any position to bring undue attention upon the good old boy favoritism that is prevalent in Alaska, especially in the construction industry.

The sad part, and the part we should all remember, is that the RNC asked Joe Miller to ‘gracefully concede’ yet when MurCOWski lost the primary, no such directive was issued to her. That tells you where their loyalties lie: not with the voters and their choices, that’s for sure.

if Miller wins the elections so be it.

if he loses so be it.

if Murkowski commited any crimes, prosecute he and send her to jail. If not dont.

do you Alaskans think that corruption is limited to your state?

Thing is, if thats how the law is written, why bother having it, if they wont follow it to the letter, do they just do what the hell they like with other laws too, its lax stuff like this that creates confusion and sets bad precedent, either you follow the law or just dont bother having them and i hope Joe argues that.

Expose the liars for what they are, he needs to argue, if that is the case that they accept any spelling then why did murkowski spend a fortune teaching people to spell her name corretly and in ads saying fill in the oval and spell the name correctly, she set the precedent that this must happen in her literature and ads, so she expected that would happen also. Fire it back at her.
