TSA Agents Absolutely Hate New Pat Downs, Find Them Disgusting And Morale Breaking
TechDirt ^ | Nov. 19, 2010 | Mike Masnick

One of the common themes that people keep mentioning in talking about the new TSA pat down procedures is that those involved must "enjoy" the groping they're giving people. But, of course, most TSA agents are normal every day people who don't actually want to grope random people. Chris Tolles points us to a post from BoardingArea.com, who reached out to some TSA agents and found that many TSA agents hate the new rules and find it to be sapping morale to have to grope passengers. Some of it appears to be the verbal abuse they're getting from travelers, but some of it is just the fact that they have to keep touching people they'd rather not touch in that way:

"It is not comfortable to come to work knowing full well that my hands will be feeling another man’s private parts, their butt, their inner thigh. Even worse is having to try and feel inside the flab rolls of obese passengers and we seem to get a lot of obese passengers!"

Of course, it does seem like a lot of the "morale" part comes from everyone accusing them of molesting them. I recognize, they're not the ones making policy, but many of the people being groped do feel violated and it's not surprising that many of them speak out.

But why raise children if you don't stick with what you teach, regardless of the hardships?

Yep! Those kids DO watch Mom and Dad, and I dare say Dad....more.....

While I can appreciate the idea that they don’t like having to frisk old fat people. And as an old and fat SOB I can tell you I don’t much appreciate them giving me a frisking without either talking dirty to me or reading me my Miranda rights.

No harm, no foul. (unless, of course, you arranged for the mountainside cliff to ice over during the blizzard before I fell last year, in that case, we gotta talk)

Honestly, do we want the good ones to leave and leave behind all the clowns that enjoy wielding their authority?

Government employment is a natural rush to the bottom. Often people are chosen because of their skin color and who they know.

They’ll be glad they’re wearing rubber gloves when they inspect Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, or a kilted Scotsman.

I’m pretty powerful, but cliff ice isn’t my department. Major broken limbs get you stuck in the kitchen?

I have not seen any regret from the pipsqueaks who have bothered me at the airport either.

Polite TSA person channeling Martin Mull: “Thank you for coming ... or however you reacted.”

“We were only following orders”

The Nuremburg defense.

I am not hearing of any exodus from the TSA ranks.

Honorable serving the Fuhrer.

TSA worker quoted in article:

If something doesn’t change in the next two weeks I don’t know how much longer I can withstand this taunting. I go home and I cry. I am serving my country, I should not have to go home and cry after a day of honorably serving my country.

Er, no. People in the ARMED FORCES are serving their country. At a stretch you could say that FBI, CIA and certain other groups are serving also. You simply took a job with the federal government with an eye on the inflated pay for menial work, ridiculously extravagant benefits and retirement, and where being fired is virtually unheard of despite the incompetence and sloth on display. You're no different from a GSA slob mowing grass somewhere.

There is no honor in what you are doing. You have been brainwashed along with the rest of your TSA brethren. Forget all the PowerPoints, videos and paperwork that DHS/TSA handed you when you signed up. Snap out of your personal Stanford Prison Experiment and try to remember that these are your fellow citizens and beyond that they are human beings with rights, personal space and dignity which you are violating under the false pretense of providing security.

The passengers are REASONABLE persons reacting to UNREASONABLE searches and INEXCUSABLE transgressions against their person and their rights guaranteed under the Constitution. Stop pretending to be the injured party and if you really want to quit then do it now. And take as many of your colleagues with you as you can manage.

"They should quit their job if they feel what they are doing is wrong. I would never keep a job in which my integrity was at stake."

HA! if people stop flying then these TSA agents would be without a job. No more people to fondle, which in turn will solve the terrorist problem since no one would be flying.

Here's a no brainer solution: Eliminate airplanes! They appear to be the terrorists' playground. Take away their toys and they will go away!

Decent, ordinary employees who find their new duties distasteful, or worse, will quit and the ranks will will be filled with real Obama brown-shirts and pervs.

Pervs is right. Since the TSA does no profiling, they won't be able to spot those with eager-beaver hands, and they will hire them in droves.

That’s easy to say, but these people have family’s to feed and there is 10% unemployment. These agents have to be suffering from psychological trauma, being economically “forced’ to do this crap. Now if the TSA agents are turning into head cases how does that enhance security?

What airport do you work? Don't you read this forum. We unemployed are lazy just waiting for the government to put us on the dole. How do mass patdowns enhance security? The should focus on terrorists.

I sympathize with the TSA screeners. I travel quite a bit and have never gotten the impression that the screener took any pleasure from patting me down.

What you are seeing are people who resent having to work ANY JOB,

I’m not going to jail for you... Happened with my son-in-law. His boss was in a very messy divorce and my son-in-law could see where it was headed regarding the company books. And yes it took him several monrhs to find another job.

I interviewed for a Controller of a private company who wanted me to "fix" his books. I walked out.

The Nazis have their gloves, but what protects the passengers from whoever has been on those gloves. I am sure they don't change gloves after every feel up.

They are already rolling them out at federal courthouses. I would demand a signed search warrent before I’d ever subject myself to a virtual strip search, and handily enough, there’s plenty of judges in a courthouse.

Sorry. Not buying that excuse. If they need to feed their family, they could go into something more honorable, like prostitution, or drug dealing.
