TSA pat-down leaves traveler covered in urine (Non-muslim bladder cancer survivor)

A retired special education teacher on his way to a wedding in Orlando, Fla., said he was left humiliated, crying and covered with his own urine after an enhanced pat-down by TSA officers recently at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

“I was absolutely humiliated, I couldn’t even speak,” said Thomas D. “Tom” Sawyer, 61, of Lansing, Mich. Sawyer is a bladder cancer survivor who now wears a urostomy bag, which collects his urine from a stoma, or opening in his stomach. “I have to wear special clothes and in order to mount the bag I have to seal a wafer to my stomach and then attach the bag. If the seal is broken, urine can leak all over my body and clothes.”

On Nov. 7, Sawyer said he went through the security scanner at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. “Evidently the scanner picked up on my urostomy bag, because I was chosen for a pat-down procedure.”

I feel horrible for this poor man. I know a woman who has a colostomy and it changed her life for the worse in the sense that a bag is constantly there. She is very aware that she is now “different”. This stuff has got to stop. Just a thought.

What happens when they see a scar and they don’t know what’s under it, are they going to believe the “card.”

They can just slice along the existing scar and pull out what is under there for a visual exam. Then hand the pacemaker (or other device) back to you with a handful of butterfly strips so you can put yourself back together after you clear security.

And while you are being sarcastic about this man being a major security threat, in a way you make an excellent point. Namely, that we’re not allowed to make any judgements about who is a threat. We’re all considered an equal threat to blow up the plane.

Political correctness may yet get us all killed. We are bending over backwards to prove to people like Bin Laden that we are not discriminating against certain types of people, or making any judgements about anything. Instead, we consider everyone an equal threat, just to prove to CAIR and Bin Laden that we are living up to what Obama calls our highest ideals.

Anyone think that Bin Laden is impressed with America standing up for its highest ideals????

I have bilateral artificial hips. I shoed them my card once after I set off the metal detector. They ignored it. When I asked why I was told “anybody can get one of those.”

The TSA is the modern day equivalent of the SA (Sturm Abteilung) thugs that helped put Hitler in power. Interesting that they share two of three letters.

I just flew into Detroit 4 hours ago coming from Taipei. When I cleared customs I was in a long line with all the people lining up for their naked scans. People at the back of the line were informed that there was no waiting up stairs near the ticketing TSA check in. I went up stairs and I got through without a grope or a dose of radiation at that checkpoint!

It MUST be resisted. An organized effort such as the Orlando airport opting out is a start. Punishing the airlines will result in a GM type take-over. The Airport Authorities must step in. This bastard has a plan and it is to bankrupt airlines.

Another horrible example of ordinary people being humiliated in public by TSA thugs. My heart goes out to this man. Why is insanity continuing to get even more intrusive?

this new TSA policy is retaliation on the American people for voting out Democrats. Obama's words place blame on the American people for his election losses.

Exactly.

Let’s not forget that one of Bammy’s biggest political backers is The American Trial Lawyers Association. This could all be a very effective way to boost business. The courts will be jammed up with lawsuits, and the attorney’s make their Lexus payments.

I presume that is a Muslim female “patting down” the Nun? EEOC laws notwithstanding, these folks should NOT be employed by the TSA.

This is way out of hand. These ignorant jerks need a significant attitude adjustment and the whole process needs a thorough sanity check.

It’s time to take back the country. Scrapping the TSA would be a great place to start.

Send the bag to BIG SIS and tell her to wear it on her head.

I have a family member who wears an ileostomy (fecal) collection bag. If one of the pat-down guys comes at him, the pat-down guy will come away with a snootful of doo-doo. Seriously. The bag will “accidentally” explode, or the clip will come off the bottom of the bag quite by accident. He isn’t at all shy about his doo-doo bag, nor does he mind making a mess and cleaning it up handily.

Any private security firm hired to work at the airport will have to follow TSA procedures & will likely be unionized.

Not sure that’s the best possible outcome.

i feel for this man but I also wonder why he and others allow themselves to be abused and humiliated. Why anyone would ask some tsa jerkoff for permission to pull up his pants also baffles me.

Nope, I don't think Bin Laden is impressed by American ideals.

And while you are being sarcastic about this man being a major security threat, in a way you make an excellent point. Namely, that we’re not allowed to make any judgements about who is a threat. We’re all considered an equal threat to blow up the plane.

And what is the net result of this policy?

Obviously, the goal is to check (and deter) those who might be terrorists. Hopefully we're "covering" those guys.

We're also "covering" a massive number of 81-year-old grannies, 61-year-old bladder cancer survivors named Thomas Sawyer, 30-year Catholic nuns, 30-year flight attendants with breast prostheses, and frightened 3-year-old toddlers.

And all of THAT is another massive waste, a pissing down the hole of absolute nothingness of billions of dollars of our tax dollars, and all for what?

I'll tell you what.

Absolute dick, that's what.

The word outrageous is almost too mild. Prior to her death from cancer, my Mom had her bladder removed and had to use a urostomy bag. What a pain it was for her. Constantly having to fiddle with it to keep it from leaking. A real hassle.

If this had happened to her at an airport, I don't know what kind of trouble I would have stirred up. These people are despicable.
