Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is letting donors know itll be a while before he looks to 2012 and that any presidential campaign he builds will have a much smaller staff than in 2008.
People are exhausted from the 2010 election, and theyre not anxious to begin right away with the next campaign, Romney told 245 of his top financial supporters on a conference call Thursday, a Romney aide told POLITICO. His team organized the call to connect with top supporters following a busy 2010 season and discuss Romneys political future.
Romney also told supporters that his organization will be smaller in scale than our last effort.
The rationale, as Romney explained it: In 2008, he was a little-known figure who had to spend millions on a large organization if he was to compete against Arizona Sen. John McCain for the Republican nomination. In that cycle, he announced an exploratory committee in January 2007 and officially announced a bid in February.
This time, January and February will come and go without an announcement, he told his supporters and he can plan a leaner staff because hes now a leading national Republican figure and needs a team that can hang on through a prolonged primary campaign amid a crowded GOP field.
Joining him on the call were top staffers certain to be part of any operation, however small, including Beth Myers, his 2008 campaign manager; Spencer Zwick, who was his finance director; Matt Rhoades, who runs his Free and Strong America PAC; and Eric Fehrnstrom, his longtime spokesman.

Hold the mayo! LOL
LOL. IIRC, he managed to buy NV last time.
HOOF print. He’s a RINO...LOL.
High five, bro!
“Republican voters don’t elect unknowns to the office of president. Democrats, on the other hand.... “”
yeah they elect Bush’s, Dole’s and McCain’s. :/
I really don’t want to say something against him coz he could still be the Nominee in 2012.
Having said that, ROMNEY MUST LEARN SOMETHING FROM PALIN.
EYE FOR BIGGER COJONES ... AND LEARN TO FIGHT LIKE A MAN!
Romney is your typical “goodie goodie” politician, an appeaser to the other side even if the other side’s position is DANGEROUS.
If Romney is really serious to run in 2012 ... LET HIM PROVE THAT HE DESERVES IT ... FIGHT OBAMA NOW!
But Palin and others have already exposed the FAKE PRESIDENCY OF BARACK OBAMA.
In short, not much for Romney to prove, eh?
People are exhausted from the 2010 election, and theyre not anxious to begin right away with the next campaign,
I am open to all conservatives, but I’m very happy supporting Sarah Palin.
She has no ties to DC and in fact she’s hostile to it and the way our business is conducted. The next POTUS has to have the majority in Congress and the will and determination to smash and dismantle several government departments and agencies, along with repealing obamacare.
Sarah Palin has the guts to do exactly that and she doesn’t give a damn about the lamestream media. The woman is fearless.
Twas a joke on McCain’s inability to take his position as the MSM’s favorite anti-republican maverick beyond the stain of actually becoming the republican nominee.
Obviously, Mitt needs Rubio's conservative gravitas and credentials to even think of pulling the wool over our eyes.
I highly doubt that Marco Rubio is stupid enough to tie himself to a sinking ship like Mitt. It'd be political suicide.
LOL.
Trolls are easy to spot. And yes I also will not share my secret of how to see them.
I will give you a hint though, they have a green glow about them....
Just doin' my duty, Ma'am. Thank you.
LOL. Okay. I’ll hush-up now!
Too good of an idea? Oooops.
LOL!
I’m not sure he even qualifies as a RINO. I assume that RINOs actually believe what they say they believe. Romney clearly believes in getting himself elected, but aside from that, he has no core beliefs.
Most people stand by their convictions. I might not agree with them, but they do and they stand by them.
Romney has made it crystal clear with his words and deeds that he’ll shift like sand if it benefits him. That’s a very dangerous trait in someone who wants to lead the nation.
It takes courage to do what you believe to be the right thing in the face of disapproval or danger. Romney has signaled too many times to count that he’ll take the easy way out if it benefits him personally.
Don’t underestimate Romney. He’s a very tough aggressive campaigner and could win many of the states that McCain won in the ‘08 primary plus his own (Nevada, Michigan, etc)
It's 2012 or never for Romney, IMO, and I say "never." He need not run. Save his money.
“Romney clearly believes in getting himself elected, but aside from that, he has no core beliefs.”
We don’t know that. He may have very liberal core beliefs!
Exactly, and thanks very much, OneVike!!!
