Chilean Women Lock Themselves In 9,000 ft Deep Mine
Hispanic News ^ | November 16th 2010 | Staff

A group of 33 women has taken over the coal mine “Chiflón del Diablo” in Lota, close to Santiago de Chile.

The group is protesting massive layoffs from the Military Job Corps, and have threatened to start a hunger strike 3000 feet below ground, if their jobs are not restored.

The women descended this morning, and locked themselves at the heart of the mine, currently a tourist attraction. They decided to come down as a group of 33, seeking to pressure the government into responding to them the same way they responded to the miners of San José.

Reports indicate there are hundreds of supporters and sympathizers protesting and rallying outside the mine.

Javier Matamala, who is in charge of the mine said “this act must end in a pacific way, to avoid damages to this historic location”

More than 8,000 people have lost their jobs since the end of the employment stimulus program implemented by the government following February’s Earthquake.

I’ve been down inside that exact mine before. Extends out underneath the Pacific.

“More than 8,000 people have lost their jobs since the end of the employment stimulus program implemented by the government following February’s Earthquake.”

So they expect the govt to continue said program?

They should just turn on a loud speaker and broadcast the sound of an explosion down there.

They locked themselves in a mine that extends under the Pacific to protest cuts that came about because of an earthquake? This could be a Darwin Award in the making.

If they won't give them jobs, why the hell would they think the powers-that-be gives a damn if they stave or not. It'll just be that many more off food-stamps (or whatever they have there).

Remember the old saying girls..."Out of sight, out of 'MINE'".

It's just the set-up for MTV's The Real World - 9,000 Foot Deep Chilean Mine.

Let’s see. A claque of shrieking harridans have burried themselves down a mine, and refuse to come out until their conditions are met.

(I’m reminded of the late Cleavon Little holding himself at gunpoint.)

Here’s the answer to the ladies in question:

“Ummm...okay. Bye!”

I’m sorry about the lost jobs, but...

1. I’ll bet they supported governmnet policies
leading to kneecapping business.

2. These women have used the mine disaster and
rescue of REAL MEN to make it about them.

Shame on them. These are not equivalents.

It will be like a giant slumber party. They are probably all wearing sheer teddies and practicing kissing.

“layoffs from the Military Job Corps”

Which is probably something like a Chilean version of “Americorps” that prior Marxist governments in Chile saddled the Chilean defense department with.

“These women have used the mine disaster and

Yep, arrogance knows no bounds.

The worst part is what happens if the frickin mine collapses! They’ve put the lives of the folks monitoring the mine at risk for a stunt.

Sounds like a good opening for some end-of-the world disaster movie. 33 Women and a handful of men in a nearby mine are all that is left of humanity.

This act by the women is insulting to the 33 miners who were not there voluntarily. God chose the perfect combination to be trapped in that mine in order to survive. These women chose themselves. God is not in this. Those women will be clawing at themselves within a week.

Copycats are disgusting.
